A Sense of Doubt blog post #2940 - COOLSVILLE TRILOGY - RICKIE LEE JONES - Music Week 2023 #00

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2940 - COOLSVILLE TRILOGY - RICKIE LEE JONES - Music Week 2023 #00

New plan for easy posts, one by one to catch up. Hello from March 16th. Nine days behind. But I did set a new record a few days ago with 15 days behind.

But I am working on it. I am recovered from being ill and have work better handled though I am about to slog into the final grading rodeo. Not too bad this time around as I don't have as many students as usual. Still, it's a slog.

So, expanding the usual once-a-week music thing that always drops on Mondays and doing a music feature every day in the one at a song category (literally called "Music-Song-by-Song") with simple posts (hey, one song! not a mix) and very little commentary or extra materials.

And then I decided to start with the Coolsville Trilogy. So, three songs.

I need to read Rickie's memoir (see pic up top). I own it. But then I own a lot of books I have not read. I may escalate this one. I am in the mood for a good memoir.

And as I hunted for images, I found other cool stuff like this blog. This blog is pretty cool.

https://flowerandthevine.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/sweet-inspiration-rickie-lee-jones-and-tom-waits/

The song "Coolsville" and hence the trilogy came off the album named for the artist (known as eponymous): Rickie Lee Jones - 1979 album.

The trilogy consists of three songs from the 1979 eponymous album:

"Coolsville"
"Young Blood"
and
"Chuck E's in Love"

This post would have been simpler had the trilogy video not been removed from You Tube. But, hey, it's on VIMEO. yay.

So here's today's post.

Thanks for tuning in.

Coolsville

Song by Rickie Lee Jones

I and Braggar, and Junior Lee
Well that's the way we always thought it would be
In the Winston lips of September, how we met
Decked out like aces, we'd beat anybody's bet

'Cause we was Coolsville
'Cause we was Coolsville

Well you stick it here
You stick it over there
But it never fits

And now a hungry night you want more and more
And you chip in your little kiss
Well, I jumped all his jokers
But he trumped all my tricks

And I swear to God I thought this one was smart enough to
Stick it into Coolsville
Yeah stick it into Coolsville

So now it's J and be, and me, and that sounds close
But it ain't the same (well, that's okay)
Hot City don't hurt that much but everything feels the same
Well the real thing come and the real thing go
Well the real thing is back in town
Ask me if you want to know The way to Coolsville
(Well I hear you want to go back to Coolsville)
(Well come on honey, take you back to Coolsville)

 Young Blood

Song by Rickie Lee Jones

Lyrics

Take a walk around midnight in the City
Young Blood is hiding there somewhere
If your looking for something to do
There's always something happening there

Like I and Bragger, we borrowed a coup today
Here come Pepe and she's got a friend in a Chevrolet
But she ain't running, she just walking a little slow,
and she ain't crying, she's just singin a little low...

"They say this city will make you dirty, but you look alright,
you feel real pretty when he's holding you tight"
City will make you mean
But that's the make up on your face
Love will wash you clean in the nights disgrace.

Find a block where your people can find you
Keep a third eye watching behind you
You never know when your making a memory
They will wish they were here together again, someday

Kids looking for something to get into take a look
Two for the movie show
Three in the back row
Hold on tight!

Remember you might have looked like cool twelve
But your fuse felt just like dynamite
City will make you dirty, but you look alright,
you feel real pretty when he's holding you tight
City will make you mean
But that's the make up on your face
Love will wash you clean in the night... dirty dirty dirt dirt...

Take a walk around midnight in the City
Young Blood will find you there somewhere
and if your looking for something to do
There's always something happening there
Something's happening there oooh ooh ooooh
Something's happening there hey hey hey... looky here y'all

 Chuck E’s in Love

Song by Rickie Lee Jones

Lyrics

How come he don't come and PLP with me
Down at the meter no more?
And how come he turn off the TV?
And he hang that sign on the door?

We call and we call
"How come?" we say
Hey, what could make a boy behave this way?

So he has learnt all of the lines now
And every time, he don't stutter when he talks
It's true! It's true!
He sure has acquired this kinda cool
And inspired sorta jazz when he walks
Where's his jacket and his old blue jeans?
Well, this ain't healthy, it is some kinda clean

That means
Chuck E.'s in love
Chuck E.'s in love
Chuck E.'s in love
Chuck E.'s in love

I don't believe what you're saying to me
This is something that I've got to see

Is he here?
I look in the poolhall
Well, is he here?
I look in the drugstore
Is he here?
No, he don't come here no more

I'll tell you what, I saw him
He was sitting behind us down in the pantages
And whatever it is that he's got up his sleeve
Well, I hope it isn't contagious

What's her name?
Is that her there?
Oh, Christ, I think he's even combed his hair
Is that her?
Well, then what's her name?
Oh, it's never gonna be the same

But that's not her
I know what's wrong
'Cause Chuck E.'s in love
With the little girl singin' this song
Don't you know?

Chuck E.'s in love, yeah yeah
Chuck E.'s in love
Chuck E.'s in love, my my
Chuck E.'s in
Chuck E.'s in love
Chuck E.'s in love
He's in love
Love with me

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2939 - "The Ghost in You" - Psychedelic Furs - Music Monday for 2303.06

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2939 - "The Ghost in You" - Psychedelic Furs - Music Monday for 2303.06

Sometimes the music just comes to you.

Watching a movie the other night, there was this tune. I had forgotten how great it is.

Happy Music Monday.

"The Ghost in You" WIKI

The Psychedelic Furs
Music video by The Psychedelic Furs performing The Ghost In You. (C) 1984 Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited

Lyrics
A man in my shoes runs a light
And all the papers lied tonight
But falling over you
Is the news of the day
Angels fall like rain
And love is all of heaven away
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
A race is on I'm on your side
And hearing you my engines die
I'm in a mood for you
For running away
Stars come down in you
And love, you can't give it away
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
Don't you go
It makes no sense
When all your talking supermen
Just take away the time
And get in the way
Ain't it just like rain
And love, is only heaven away
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2938 - Cool New Comic Book Covers 2023 - COMIC BOOK SUNDAY for 2303.05

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2938 - Cool New Comic Book Covers 2023 - COMIC BOOK SUNDAY for 2303.05

Here we are again with a cover gallery for COMIC BOOK SUNDAY, which is being posted 10 days late.

I was so taken with the  I am Iron Man cover (and the variant below) that I wanted to use it as a topper image for this post as well as my March Weekly Comics post, which only I see. I keep thinking I will publish those comic posts (which actually collect the comics for the month a week at a time), but I never get to it.

I have recently been ill (very ill), which is one reason for my lateness. During my convalescence, I watched season two of Titans, and so I am even more enamored than usual of Nightwing as a character and the new Nightwing comic. So there's some great Nightwing covers below.

As I curate the rest, here's a few more thoughts: I am very curious about the "Superman family" currently featured in Action Comics, and this cover for issue #1052 is gorgeous.

Black Cat and Spider-Man fighting a pile o' ninjas? Yes, please. Sign me up.

I have really liked Ridley's run on Black Panther, and I didn't think I would given that I am such a huge Ta-Nehisi Coates fan. The covers have also been things of beauty, like issue #1`4 with Namor shown below.

Likewise, the Detective Comics covers have been arresting, lately. WOW.

The mini series Sct Rock vs the Army of the Dead has been great fun. I don't even remember subscribing to it, but I am glad to be reading it. Love it.

As I write this, it's been over a month since I was in to the local comic shop, so I am heading there today.

Mark Bagley on Spider-Man. SO DOPE.

And to those Slott haters out there: slot it away. This issue (five) is another nail on the headboard proving what a great writer SLOTT is. Loved it.

Can't wait to read the new Superman #1 and oggle the gorgeous art that is Jamal Campbell. WOW.

Enjoy my cover gallery!! :-)

Thanks for tuning in.

These that follow are repeats of ones I shared on February 26th.

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2937 - BLACK MERCY Hypnagogic Mesmerization - THAT ONE THING FOR 2303.04

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2937 - BLACK MERCY Hypnagogic Mesmerization - THAT ONE THING FOR 2303.04

I might have misremembered where I found this image.

I thought it was on an account on Tumblr with the handle Black Mercy, which was also the name of an alien plant creature in the classic Superman story by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons: "For the Man Who Has Everything."

But it's not.

I cannot find where I located this image.

I also do not know the origin of the image.

But I like it.

I am very intrigued by powers to hypnotize, mesmerize, ensorcell, and so on.

I wish I had more readers, someone who could identify the source of this image, not just where it was reposted on Tumblr.

Oh wow.

I keep forgetting that Google has a search by image function.

Though it did not help me find the Tumblr account, it did help me find the origin of the image.

https://thedirect.com/article/marvel-scarlet-witch-avengers-villain-doctor-strange-2-trailer

For the record, I have not yet seen the second Doctor Strange movie. I am a lot more interested now, though it's been on my list since it came out.

Lately, while ill, which owes a large part of the responsibility for why I am behind on the blog, I have been catching up on the Titans TV show.

I see a Marvel movie marathon in my near future as I have also not seen the second Black Panther film, either of the last two Spider-Man movies or the last two Thor movies.

Thanks for tuning in.

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2936 - Woman by the Well - THAT ONE THING FOR 2303.03

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2936 - Woman by the Well - THAT ONE THING FOR 2303.03

And so, 2800 days.

Seems fitting to share this image on the 2800th day.

The woman in the picture is definitely "tapped in."

I am not able to "tap in" as much as some people I know (my wife), but I do feel connected, often, to the universe and my mother's all-encompassing love.

It's love that I then pass on to those I love.

Some may interpret the look of this woman as evil or creepy, but that's not what I see.

This is THAT ONE THING for March 3, 2023.

Thanks for tuning in.
