The Daily Bowie #6 - "Fill Your Heart"

The Daily Bowie #6 - "Fill Your Heart"

Greetings. Here's today's The Daily Bowie.

I made some decisions about The Daily Bowie.

1. The List. I had forgotten that I promised to keep a tally. I may not include it every day, but I will share it at list once a week.

2. ALL THE ALBUMS: For the month, I am going to restrict myself to one song from one album at a time. By album, I mean the main, studio albums, not live albums or compilations or soundtracks. So far, each song came from a different album of the twenty-six albums in his career. This will be an interesting restriction given the songs I have selected so far. Once I have posted one song for each album, then I can return to previous albums and/or different versions of songs I have already posted. However, I am not restricting myself just to songs Bowie WROTE as today's song, come to find out, which I did not know, is not written by Bowie.

3. ONE PICTURE; ONE VIDEO (mostly): I will stick to the one video thing, but one picture? Yesterday, I posted two pictures. I will try to keep it simple, but there are SO MANY pictures.

4. BRIEF: This is one of the longer posts as I am sharing rules and the list. Mainly, I keep it brief.

THE DAILY BOWIE LIST

The Daily Bowie #1 - "Ashes to Ashes" - SCARY MONSTERS - 1980

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #202 - Dad's birthday remark

Hi Mom,

I know I don't have to tell you, but I will anyway.

I have the best Dad in the whole world.

That's all for today. That thought/ feeling is big enough.

Here's what he wrote on my Facebook wall.

Reflect and connect.

Have someone give you a kiss, and tell you that I love you.

Talk to you tomorrow, Mom.

The Daily Bowie #5 - "Sound and Vision"

The Daily Bowie #5 - "Sound and Vision"

I just let my unconscious mind drift and select a Bowie song each day. I started with a three song plan, but after that I started improvising.

I am breaking a rule here with two visuals as I promised only one visual a day, but I could not decide between these two.

My wife dreamed about David Bowie last night. Though this song had nothing to do with her dream, it's the first song that came to mind today. I find that I think of this song often. I find that I listen to Low more than any other David Bowie album.

"Blue blue, electric blue, that is the color of my room where I will live."

The Daily Bowie #4 - " Running Gun Blues"

The Daily Bowie #4 - " Running Gun Blues"

Shortly after David Bowie died, I remembered that a friend of mind was very fond of this song, which is not well known.

"But I can't control it, my face is drawn
My instinct still emotes it"

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #201 - Tower Birthday Cake Archive

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #201 - Tower Birthday Cake Archive

Hi Mom,

I am in the process of assembling the official TOWER birthday cake archive, featuring the cake artistry of my Dad, the Big Guy, Bob Tower.

Frosting and decorative wizardry!

I am including both pictures of cakes from my life but also my sister's.

Each year, my father would decorate the cake based on our request. As you can see the cakes are quite elaborate. But many cakes are missing. There must be more photos somewhere that we have not yet found.

We know this is not yet a complete archive, so surely the cake archive will be updated.

Also, the cakes are not featured in order, which is too difficult. I will date and note cakes as best I can, but these dates, also, may need to be updated in the future as an ongoing project.

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #200 - Two Birthday Celebrations

My Birthday 1974
Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #200 - Two Birthday Celebrations

Hi Mom, Birthday celebrations to share. This blog entry will just be photos with blurbs.

I know you love photo albums, Mom. This is very much the same thing I would have shared and how while you were still alive.

I am missing you more at my birthday time than at any other time so far.

Here's the sushi dinner that Liesel and I shared in honor of my birthday at Kumo on Friday 1601.22 with a gift certificate provided by Rob Allen, Liesel's step-father.

Here's the presents both wrapped and unwrapped given to me by Liesel on 1601.22 as we had to celebrate my birthday days later due to work.

Cake and a tart. Your famous Lemon "poke" cake, Mom. I wish you were here to help us with it, and a delicious Lemon Tart my wife bought.

PRESENTS. Presents from Liesel are on the left: Bowie magazines, 2 CDs, three books, pickled beets, sardines, and Dolma. A B&N gift card from Lori and Noel. Martian Manhunter T-shirt, replica patches from Lost and Star Wars, and the documentary The Singularity is Near from Dad.

Close ups of presents.

More close ups.

Picture with my camera phone from the Kitchen House: BG, me, Lori, and Noel.

Picture with Dad's camera. Maybe he needs a new camera...?

My drink, a Sicilian Mule, Old Dog vodka from Chelsea MI, Limoncello, and ginger beer.

Kitchen House menu, no I was not trying to capture the whole thing.

Unwrapping presents: The Martian Manhunter T-shirt.

More presents. The Singularity is Near documentary.

All above pictures with replica patches from Lost (octagons) and Star Wars rebel forces. There is one more present to come. I suspect more patches so I can make more special shirts with the patches sewn on.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And after dinner, we went home and had the lemon cake.

I think it was the first time the four of us had sat around the dining room table at the condo since before you passed away.

No one sat in your spot.

I miss you, SO MUCH, Mom

Reflect and connect.

Have someone give you a kiss, and tell you that I love you.

Talk to you tomorrow, Mom.

My birthday - 2010

The Daily Bowie #3 - "Sons of the Silent Age"

The Daily Bowie #3 - "Sons of the Silent Age"

"Search through their one inch thoughts
Then decide it couldn't be done"

"Sons Of The Silent Age"

Sons of the silent age
Stand on platforms
blank looks and note books
Sit in back rows
of city limits
Lay in bed coming
and going on easy terms
Sons of the silent age
Pace their rooms
like a cell's dimensions
Rise for a year or two
then make war
Search through their one inch thoughts
Then decide it couldn't be done

[CHORUS]
Baby, I'll never let you go
All I see is all I know
Let's find another way down
(sons of sound and sons of sound)
Baby, baby, I'll never let you down
I can't stand another sound
Let's take another way in
(sons of sound and sons of sound)

Sons of the silent age
Listen to tracks by Sam Therapy
and King Dice
Sons of the silent age
Pick up in bars
and cry only once
Sons of the silent age
Make love only once
but dream and dream
They don't walk,
they just glide in and out of life
They never die,
they just go to sleep one day

[CHORUS]

(Sons of sound and sons of sound)
Baby, baby, baby, fire away!
