A Sense of Doubt blog post #3991 - NO KINGS!! T2 - the Horror, The Horror

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3991 - NO KINGS!!! T2 - the Horror, The Horror

I have delayed this post many times.

It's all just too horrible.

Eventually, I decided I should publish on the one-year anniversary of Trump taking office for his second term.

This is a lazy post. My desire to curate and all these news stories has faded, and so you get a list of links if you wish to explore the horrors yourself, if there's things you missed.

Meanwhile, as of today, Trump's approval numbers are tanking. He's threatening to destroy NATO by taking over Greenland. He ordered the kidnapping of Maduro out of Venezuela in violation of international law, despite the very weak counter arguments that the U.S. had the authority and jurisdiction for this "arrest." Not that I support Maduro, not that removing him isn't a good thing, but the way it was done was wrong.

On January 7th, 2026, an ICE agent named Jonathan Ross murdered a Minnesotan woman named Renee Good. The Trump administration is lying about it, brazenly, claiming that she ran over the ICE agent Jonathan Ross with her car when we can see video evidence that this claim is false. They claim he was justified in murdering her and that they will not investigate.

Minnesotans especially are protesting angrily but protests have been held all over the country. Trump is threatening the Insurrection Act and sending in the military against U.S. citizens.

I could go on.

There's some new awful thing every day because Trump loves attention and never feels like he gets enough. Positive or negative attention seems to both feed his massive ego, a front for his monumental insecurity.

Here's a massive playlist of videos about this first year followed by a ton of content, mostly links. Oh, and some memes.

How we survive another three years, I don't know.

Thanks for tuning in.

At the same time, MAGA depicts the whole insurrection as a false flag operation organized by antifa, the F.B.I. and the speaker of the House at the time, Nancy Pelosi. Mr. Trump’s incoherent revisionist mythology of Jan. 6 has become an organizing policy commitment of his administration. On Inauguration Day, he pardoned or commuted the prison sentences of each of the nearly 1,600 rioters and seditionists (apparently no longer antifa fighters). This move bypassed the U.S. pardon attorney and discarded centuries of understanding that pardons should go to petitioners who have shown true remorse and contrition, rehabilitation and a lack of dangerousness.

Meanwhile, the official government position toward the Jan. 6 anniversary is silence and indifference: The Republican-controlled Congress is doing nothing to acknowledge the day.

In March 2022, Congress passed a law requiring that, within a year, a plaque be hung in the Capitol in honor of the hundreds of officers who put their bodies and lives on the line to defend members of Congress and the besieged vice president. The plaque makes a promise about our police officers: “Their heroism will never be forgotten.” It still has not been installed.

Newsom wrote in a separate post: "7 million Americans turned out yesterday to peacefully protest a monarchy. It was the biggest protest the country has ever seen. And despite the GOP's best efforts to sow hatred and chaos, you stood firm in peace and unity. That's what real patriotism looks like."

But the latest Yahoo/YouGov poll shows that 60% of Americans now disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy — while just 33% approve. That is the president’s most negative rating to date.

A clear majority of Americans (56%) now believe the U.S. economy is getting worse, up 9 points since March, and more than three-quarters of Americans (76%) say grocery prices are rising, up 10 points over the same period. A majority of Americans (56%) also say Trump’s recent tariffs are having more of a negative than positive effect on the current U.S. economy — a number that has climbed 5 points since July.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
