Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1008 - This Wild Darkness - New MOBY!! - Musical Monday for 1804.09

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1008 - This Wild Darkness - New MOBY!! - Musical Monday for 1804.09

Hi Mom,

Happy Monday, except it's Tuesday as I write these words.

I had a big weekend, but more on that later.

For now, the usual Musical Monday theme. My original plan for this post was derailed by discovering that MOBY has a new album!!

After finding this Moby video via Thievery Corporation You Tube association, Google's AI running the video platform put together a playlist of similar artists or associated artists, part of its You Tube Mixes section claiming to create "nonstop" playlists based on a song or artist. This AI-driven playlist creation strikes me as modeled on Pandora's system, and yet the song association seems stronger with more repeats by the originating artist, which in this case was the Thievery Corporation, whose new album comes out next week.

And so, I curated a mini-playlist of my own for this post based on that You Tube mix, choosing songs almost entirely by artists that are new to me with the exception of Moby, Thievery Corporation, and Nightmares on Wax.

I am also trying to keep these mini-mixes confined to seven songs for seven days: here's the week's music. This mix has EIGHT in keeping with the concept of the baker's dozen: seven songs and one to grow on.

I think this playlist is strong with some great finds, such as Os Tincoãs  with "Deixa A Gira Girar (j g b edit)," Tinariwen (+IO:I) - Nànnuflày, and the cool animated video for the song by Jon Hopkins. The flow of this playlist is nice with a great switch from Bicep "Glue," which has a rhythmic electronic gyration to the start of the Seinabo Sey video, which begins with street noise and the sounds of work space or apartment before sliding into a soul funk groove with the vocals of new artist Seinabo Sey, a Swedish singer and song writer.

Also, I love the new Moby song (though it's very different than the other tunes in this mix), and the Thievery Corporation, and Nightmares on Wax tracks are among my two new favorites by these artists.

The EMBEDDED PLAYLIST as a video LINK is the last video frame in the post. Click it to play everything and even loop it all on You Tube.

A day late, but not an dollars short. ENJOY.

NEW (written 1708.27) NOTE on time: I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of your death, Mom, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of your death, Mom. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom.
