A Sense of Doubt blog post #2357 - Danse Macabre - WHAT I AM READING PART EIGHT

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2357 - Danse Macabre - WHAT I AM READING PART EIGHT

Usually, today is dedicated to COMIC BOOK SUNDAY, but no comics today. Just a quick recap on what what I am reading and then a bunch of images (and one video) of material related to Danse Macabre, the Dance of Death.

Okay, so I am still reading

Attack Surface by Cory Doctorow, and making significant headway.

I am also reading

A Year in the Country: Straying from the Pathways by Stephen Prince

A Year with Swollen Appendices: Brain Eno's Diary by Brian Eno

How to Write a Best Selling Novel by Dean Koontz

And a variety of other things, including Danse Macabre by Stephen King.

Don't you just love the Italian edition above? And one of the domestic editions below?

The Danse Macabre from which Stephen King takes the title for his book on horror books and films and whey they terrify us comes from an allegory of the universality of death that began to be popular in art and music in the late Middle Ages, primarily in the second half of the 1400s.

When I searched Google for "Danse Macabre," I was astounded, though not surprised, at how many images existed.

Here's a collection of a few choice ones, and I am sure I will collect more and do another edition later.

Happy Sunday! heh.

A German painting of the Danse Macabre. Nine women of different social rank from empress to fool dance with the dead. The entire economy of salvation is depicted, from the Fall, through the crucifixion, to Heaven and Hell. Twelve more traditional Dance Macabre figures, from pope and emperor down to fool, surround the central image. Wikimedia Commons.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
