A Sense of Doubt blog post #3617 - David Bowie in Comics (again) - Comic Book Sunday for 2501.12

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3617 - David Bowie in Comics (again) - Comic Book Sunday for 2501.12

I was going to do a lot more with this post, but then I stopped myself as I am trying to practice the less is more approach. Much more sustainable for my blog, focus and limiting content helps to get entries finished without falling behind and reduces my stress. Not every post has to be a kitchen sink full of dirty dishes. That issue is probably why there are a dozen or more scheduled and as yet unpublished posts that I consider "in development."

I am not sure how I missed Butcher Billy's art back in 2016, or since, as I am sure that I have searched "Bowie in Comics" before.

I have to say that Bowie's smile in certain images, somewhat out of context from his actual face, feels like a leer and is disturbing.

To dispel that creepy feeling, I just think of that video of Bowie playing piano with his little daughter and then I know who Bowie really is or perhaps, David Jones.

Tough call for the topper image, so I just went with the triptych, which I found first.

Also, I couldn't find all of them at full-size, but I did find a couple of grids, which, between them, show them all.

Thanks for tuning in,

David Bowie tributes came in thick and fast after his untimely death, including this amazing letter from Ricky Gervais and Lady Gaga’s medley performed at The Grammys.

But this art collection has to top the rest as one of the most awesome acknowledgements to Bowie’s lyrical genius and influence over popular culture. Artist Butcher Billy has created this collection of pop culture mash up pictures, each one showing Bowie’s face and name of a song mixed with a film star character or famous figure. Butcher said:

Bowie has always had a huge impact on me. His influence can be seen in tons of my art. In the wake of his death, I was surprised to learn how many people have been affected by his sound and vision, just as I have. This series is to celebrate his life and immense influence.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
