A Sense of Doubt blog post #2484 - WAKE UP THE NATION - PAUL WELLER - MUSICAL MONDAY FOR 2112.06 - Being Woke

This song came up in the HODGE PODGE the other day:

Since when did being WOKE become an insult? Since the GOP double-down on being as nasty as they can be as some form of misguided patriotism.

Meanwhile on Planet Earth, being "woke" has become toxic. But if the opposite of "woke" is not woke or asleep, not awake, how is that better?

I heard of being "woke" long before one of my heroes, Erykah Badu, used the term in 2017's "Master Teacher," Didn't Laurence Fishburne yell wake up at the end of Spike Lee's School Daze?

And even before that being awake, really AWAKE, versus asleep can be traced through source material by Jung or various philosophers to the ancient Egyptians and third eye concepts.

There's a long history of woke evolution detailed here at Medium.

Thankfully, some still argue to STAY WOKE.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Why has it become such a bad thing to be "woke"?

I feel I am woke AF, and yet I still have a long way to go.

The right wingery just want to turn every positive thing on the left into a negative.

But we need some more people to WAKE THE F UP.

PAST DUE.

The Modfather saw this one coming.

"WAKE UP THE NATION" - PAUL WELLER

Wake Up the Nation

Fish from the paper, fresh from the sea
The cracks in the pavement, the city in siege
I don't know where to replace it or who to believe
Can't find on the pavement or lay on his knees
Scratching around in a second I got where you should be
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night up ahead
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night on our hands
Nowhere to be
Nowhere to be
Get your face off the Facebook and turn off your phone
The death of the post box, no one is home
Scratching around in a second I got where you should be
Nowhere to be
Nowhere to be
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night up ahead
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night on our hands
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night up ahead
We're going to wake up the nation, don't be no drag
Shake up the station, a night on our hands

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
