A Sense of Doubt blog post #3758 - "Wish You Were Here" - Playing for Change - Afro Fiesta - and SIX more for June - Music Monday for 2506.02
This version of Pink Floyd's song "Wish You Were Here" from the 1975 album of the same name came up in my You Tube feed. and it was such a unique version that I decided it was worth posting for Music Monday.
Also, I miss my parents. I don't want to say I miss my Dad more than I miss my Mom, but Dad's death is the more recent one, so that could be considered the most painful.
June is a Dad month as his birthday falls on the 26th just a little over a week after Father's Day.
Though the Pink Floyd song is considered a tribute to founding band member Syd Barrett, it is universal enough to apply to anyone's experience, something Roger Waters has said many times as he's unwilling to limit the song by defining it as specifically for Syd.
I have posted two Playing For Change songs before:
What follows is a video of Afro Fiesta covering the Pink Floyd song and lyrics. After that, I am sharing six more Playing for Change songs for the sixth month of the year, June, my Dad's birth month.
I miss you, Dad, which is something I have written several times since last August, 277 days ago. I have written how I miss my Mom even more often in 3623 days since she died. It's like an incantation. Each time I say it, the saying of it (or writing of it) drains more of the pain from the experience.

And this Afro Fiesta performance is a great cover of the Pink Floyd classic.
Thanks for tuning in.

Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell
blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war
for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have you found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here
Heaven from Hell
blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?

Running over the same old ground

The same old fears
Wish you were here
AND SIX MORE FOR THE SIXTH MONTH
NOTE: I have never been a big Steve Miller Band fan. I don't own any of the albums, despite the ubiquitous appearance of the Greatest Hits albums every where. I had never really paid any attention to what songs were by this band, even though I have heard them a million times. I am sure at some point I knew that "Fly Like An Eagle" was by the Steve Miller Band, but finding this video brought the fact to the forefront of my consciousness. It is actually a really good song.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
