A Sense of Doubt blog post #3934 - Ban Ghost Jobs!Quick shares this week.
Ghost jobs suck.
I was going to add more content, but in the interests of saving my time this week, I will save that content for a future post.
Thanks for tuning in.
 | | | | | | | | | Dear Chris, Since being laid off last year, I’ve applied for more than 1000 job openings. Only 22 companies ever got back to me. At first, I assumed the lack of interest was because of my age (I’m in my 50s now). But after some research, I learned that most of these jobs didn’t even exist. It turns out that — like millions of other determined job seekers — I was wasting time and energy applying to ghost jobs. I started a campaign to stop this madness. Protect job seekers. Sign below with one click. | | | | Don’t know about ghost jobs? Companies post these non-existent positions on job sites to collect data about job seekers, frighten current staff into thinking they can be replaced, or project an image of growth to investors. This might seem harmless at first glance. But it’s not. Ghost jobs have become so widespread that they’re even skewing national employment statistics. Job seekers like me spend hours tailoring applications, crafting cover letters, and enduring the anxiety of waiting — often for a reply that never comes. Each unanswered application chips away at our confidence, making us question our value. Unemployment is hard enough. No one should feel self-doubt over jobs that aren’t real. And reform is possible. Governments in Canada have already passed legislation to curtail bogus job ads. The United States can — and should — do the same. Join me in calling on Congress to do better and pass this common-sense reform. Sign my petition with a single click below. | | | | Thank you, Eric Thompson Founder, Truth in Job Advertising |

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
