A Sense of Doubt blog post #2859 - MOBY DICK - THAT ONE THING FOR 2212.16

A Sense of Doubt blog post #2859 - MOBY DICK - THAT ONE THING FOR 2212.16

Every Fall I think about Moby Dick.

It was the Fall quarter of my sophomore year of college that I read Moby Dick and wrote a paper about it. The essay did not score highly, but the preface that I wrote about the music of David Bowie started it off with a "bang," according to my instructor: "You started with a Bowie bang but ended with a Pip whimper"; Pip being a character in Moby Dick.

One of these years I will engage in a re-read of the Melville classic.

Or at least that's what I tell myself.

There are also so many books I have not read the first time, and yet, this book haunts me much as the whale haunted Ahab. I must grapple with why and find a way to confront the great whale of my unconscious mind.

I could write a much better essay on Pip and Moby Dick now, so many years later.

I would still start off with a Bowie bang.

This is THAT ONE THING for December 16th, 2022.

Thanks for tuning in.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
