Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1064 - Love is Dead - CHVRCHES - Musical Monday for 1806.04

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1064 - Love is Dead - CHVRCHES - Musical Monday for 1806.04

Hi Mom,

CHVRCHES!!!

LOVE IS DEAD by CHVRCHES!!

Today's post features music from one band: Chvrches, because, really, what more do you need?

Another great musical thing from Scotland, Glasgow to be specific.

Don't take anything from the album title. I am not cynical about love, and even Lauren Mayberry, lead singer, suggests that there is an unprinted, assumed question mark at the end of the title.

I shared the following video in this Musical Monday post:

http://sensedoubt.blogspot.com/2017/01/hey-mom-talking-to-my-mother-573-kieron.html

It's author Kieron Gillen's 2016 best of year playlist, which I like WAY MORE than his best of playlist for 2017, though it's not his fault what music has been released in a year. I have lost my momentum in assembling his best of year playlist for 2017, but it's in the draft queue, so it could see publication for a future Musical Monday.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

In June 2016, a new version of "Bury It" featuring Hayley Williams was released the fifth and final single from Every Open Eye.[29] The music video for the song was illustrated by Jamie McKelvie, featuring the trio and Williams demonstrating telekinetic powers.[30]

YAY!! Jamie McKelvie.

I mean, really. Like Kieron Gillen is not going to add the video by his collaborator.

So, CHVRCHES was on my radar, and as I started reading the June 1-8 issue of Entertainment Weekly, I see they made the "Must List."

Here's the text because I cannot find it on the Internet:

"Just six years ago, Chvrches uploaded a song called "Lies" in a blog post, unsure if anyone would listen on the other side -- a cosmic test of pop powers that be. Now, they drop their third studio album, featuring bigger and better versions of the synth-pop dance sound beloved by fans (and spin classes) following their first two lauded records. Proof, indisputably, that someone has indeed been listening."

There's all sorts of great things to point out about Chvrches, such as that Lauren plays drums, synthesizers, and runs samples on the recordings in addition to lead vocals. All three provide vocals and all three play synthesizers, with Iain handling guitars while Martin concentrates on the main synthesized blends.

Chvrches ranked fifth in BBC's "Sounds" of 2013. They have been nominated for many awards and won both South by Southwest and Popjustice in 2013.

Their music has been used in over a dozen video games, TV shows, and movies, including Mr. Robot, The Hunger Games, and even Grand Theft Auto V.

Some may eschew them as another brit-pop outfit with a pretty, young lead singer to front them to stardom. Sure, one could pigeon-hole them that way. But Chvrches are doing many interesting things in the genre. If one does not like the synthy-dancey-sound, then it's not your cuppa.

I happen to like them.  A LOT.

What cannot be disputed is that Chvrches are coming on strong with the third albums in five years.

For Chvrches, the time is now.

L-R: Martin Doherty, Lauren Mayberry, and Iain Cook

NEW (written 1708.27) NOTE on time: I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of your death, Mom, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of your death, Mom. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom.
