A Sense of Doubt blog post #3752 - The Sentinel Intelligence Round-Up - Subscribe on GHOST

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3752 - The Sentinel Intelligence Round-Up - Subscribe on GHOST

So, I fell behind again, and I am posting this entry from the future. Only three days this time, counting today when I write, which is Thursday, but grad school re-started, so homework, and then another work thing, and house stuff, all of which slowed me down. Mostly, the homework.

In regards to this post, it is not possible to be a paid subscriber for every writer I want to support. However, if more of them had deals like this one -- $9 annually -- I would gladly subscribe.

Apparently, Substack imposes a minimum as explained below, which is why Jessica migrated to Ghost, which allows any pay scale.

This post is a good overview of her subscription and some of her excellent posts.

I subscribed.
You may wish to as well.

Thanks for tuning in.

Subscription Renewals and Housekeeping

And a retrospective.

7 min read

We're entering the summer months, when a lot of subscriptions start to roll over. So I'm sending out a short email to remind everyone what's changed over the last year and how to manage their plans, along with a roundup of posts to (hopefully) make a case for why this newsletter matters.

First, I'm publishing on two platforms now. I'm here on Ghost, and I'm also posting on Substack. This post explains why. It also shows you how to manage your subscriptions and contact information. The short of it: A lot of people prefer Substack, and a lot of people prefer Ghost.

You can decide where to subscribe.

Substack has a feature that automatically sends everyone an update when their subscription approaches renewal. As far as I can tell, Ghost doesn't have that, and it's why I'm sending this email.

I know times remain tough, but you can stay subscribed here on Ghost for $9 a year. Substack doesn't let me charge less than $30 a year for a subscription. So, the ability to offer better prices provides another reason I'm publishing on both platforms. On Ghost, there's no difference in the tiers in terms of what you get. It's all about what you can afford to support for an independent writer who's trying to offer fresh insights and perspectives.

I hate self-promotion, but it also feels important to offer a roundup of posts from time to time, driving home how much work and research go into these articles. Also, maybe you missed a few.

Looking back at these posts has reminded me how much I learned while doing this research. It was even fun. And if "fun" isn't the right word, it was interesting and it helped me work through my own dread and anxiety about everything we're dealing with. When life gets hard, these articles remind me why I'm still going. I hope it was worth it for all of you as well.

So, here's the articles.

Over the last year, I've written several practical articles covering the basics of how to prepare for the kinds of disasters we're most likely to face, or already facing as we get deeper into the century. I compiled them here:

A List of Important Prepping Articles
Compiled in one place.

I'm also continuing to dive into history, social psychology, mental health, and current events for insights and perspective. I'll eventually compile these into their own list, but you can see them below:

Take care,

Jessica

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
