A Sense of Doubt blog post #3144 - Former YnR Actor Billy Miller Dead at 43 Years Old

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3144 - Former YnR Actor Billy Miller Dead at 43 Years Old

This is sad news...

If you're a regular reader, you know I am a Y&R viewer, though since my Mom passed away, I have not been able to keep up with the show. I just watched an episode the other day from early May.

I love the actor playing Billy Abbott now (Jason Thompson), but until him, Billy Miller was my favorite actor who played the role.

Thanks for tuning in.

"His infectious charm and warmth left lasting impressions on all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives."

Billy Miller, the Daytime Emmy–winning star known for his roles on The Young and the Restless and General Hospital, has died. He was 43.

His manager confirmed the news to EW. No cause of death was provided, but the actor was struggling with manic depression when he died.

Born on Sept. 17, 1979, in Tulsa, Okla., Miller grew up in Texas. He would have turned 44 on Sunday.

Eileen Davidson, of The Young and the Restless fame, paid tribute to her former costar on social media, writing, "I'm so sad to hear of Billy Miller's passing. His infectious charm and warmth left lasting impressions on all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives. I'm gonna miss that mischievous smile. Love you, Billy."

General Hospital actor Jason Thompson called the news "heartbreaking," saying, "He was funny, had a great laugh, and very talented. Light and love to his family and friends."

"You lit up every room with your smile," fellow Young and the Restless alum Michael Muhney wrote of Miller on social media. "Your quiet intensity on screen was second only to your gentle kindness and genuine care in private. You were bigger and braver and bolder than this life. You were legend."

He continued, "There is no landing to this final cliffhanger. The wings you've spent your lifetime earning have carried you up to that wonderful place in the sky."

As a young actor, Miller got his start in an episode of CSI: NY in 2006. He landed a series regular role on All My Children the following year.

Miller rose to stardom on The Young and the Restless, where he graduated from a supporting cast member to a series regular. He joined the cast in 2008, taking over the role of spoiled rich boy Billy Abbott, who was portrayed by several actors over the years, including David Tom and Ryan Brown. He appeared on the show through 2014, during which he was lauded by critics and audiences. Miller took home three Daytime Emmys for his performance as the character.

He continued his career with parts on JustifiedCastle, and CSI, before returning to daytime television on General Hospital, as both Jason Morgan and his twin brother, Andrew Cain. His other roles included recurring stints on RingerSuitsRay Donovan, and Truth Be Told. He also appeared alongside Bradley Cooper in the Clint Eastwood drama American Sniper, and owned several Los Angeles restaurants and bars for many years.

Miller is survived by his mother, Patricia; sister, Megan; brother-in-law, Ronnie; nephew, Grayson; and niece, Charley.

The Daytime Emmy-winning actor died at 43 last week after battling bipolar depression.

The Young and the Restless is honoring the memory of Billy Miller, days after the former cast member's sudden death at 43.

Thursday's episode of the long-running soap opera paid tribute to the Daytime Emmy-winning actor by concluding with a montage of some of Miller's memorable moments from his time in Genoa City. The montage began with the message "In loving memory" and ended on a black-and-white image of the actor with his name and the text "1979-2023."

The tribute was also shared on social media with a heartfelt message: "To end today's episode we paid tribute to a greatly missed member of the Y&R family. Billy Miller will forever be in our hearts."

Miller joined Y&R in 2008 as spoiled rich boy Billy Abbott, a role originated in 1999 by David Tom. Miller was the third actor to portray Abbott but had the longest tenure, six years, from 2008 to 2014.

Miller's Abbot was a fan favorite, and the actor won three Daytime Emmys for his performance: two for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and one for Outstanding Lead Actor.

After leaving The Young and the Restless, Miller took over the role of General Hospital's Jason Morgan from Steve Burton, who played the part for 21 years. When Burton returned to GH in 2017, Miller's role was retconned as Jason's twin brother, Andrew Cain.

General Hospital also paid tribute to Miller this week, posting on social media, "It's been a tough year for our family. Rest in peace, Billy." (GH regulars Jacklyn Zeman and Gerald Castillo died earlier this year, while vet John J. York recently revealed he's undergoing treatment for two separate blood and bone marrow disorders.)

Miller died Sept. 15, just days before his 44th birthday. His mother, Patricia Miller, said in a statement that he had "fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years" but ultimately "the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life."

"We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss," she added. "I will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support."
