A Sense of Doubt blog post #4112 - Letter to Dad #36

A Sense of Doubt blog post #4112 - Letter to Dad #36

Hi Big Guy,  Not much to report today but first about the photo.

Not sure if I told you but this envelope of photos came with a list, most of which were identified by you, Dad.

The one for this photo is in Mom's handwriting as:

"Lori & Chris at table." There's an arrow pointing your name and another note: "first time on stool."

Look at how proud Lori is to be sitting on Mom's stool for the first time like a big girl! She's one and a half in this photo.

It is dated 3/11/71.

Lori is sitting on the white stool that was a common fixture in our home for years. It eventually went to the basement, but it was still in the house. I used it as a kind of tiered table in my school work office space for a while as the steps below the seat allowed multiple stacks of things to be visible.

For some reason the birthday candle is still on the table. I suspect because Mom was burning it down to be ready for next year.

Notice in the background that she had just finished washing dishes or was in the process as the rubber gloves are on the counter.

I recognize the book I am holding but I cannot place what it is. Clearly, I am doing homework.

As for this week, not much going on. I am working on my field experience application, though mostly waiting on the site supervisor who has a lot of information to supply.

I have been applying for jobs and mostly getting rejected.

I have been working on my book, and I was told that I had inspired my therapist to try his hand at writing, too.

Getting stuff done around the house, though never enough. Bought a new toilet seat. May power wash tomorrow. More stuff to plant. I wish you were here to talk to about it all.

I have a friend who is a handyman (among many other things); he came over the other day to consult on projects, including fixing one of the little tables you  made that I let pull apart because I had overloaded it.

I need to clean both garages, but SUNDAY, I need more hours of reading comics and watching Baseball.

Yesterday, I cleaned my car as best as I can. Dog fur is embedded in the upholstery. I am getting an oil change today and was a little ashamed of the state of my car.

Pistons lost game seven against the Cavs on Sunday. Though I am wearing Pistons shorts right now, I retired my Pistons water cup, used at bed time, switching it out for the Tigers cup, who are also losing  A LOT.

Pistons didn't just lose Sunday; they were crushed. Even so, with 60 wins and making it into the second round (semi-finals) was a big improvement over 2024-2025. I cannot complain too much about how they did this season.

Tigers are on now. Tork just flied out with the bases loaded and two outs.

Time to go do the watering and get ready to leave for my oil change. Trying out my portable keyboard (the one I left at home last week) with my tablet to do some writing while I wait. Then some errands.

I miss you every day, Dad. Though I feel you and Mom by my side, I miss your guidance. I don't feel I learned all that you had to teach me.

More next week when I may finally finish that "seeing Bowie Live" post.

Love you!
~ christopher

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
