A Sense of Doubt blog post #2032 - Dune, Batman, and Black Widow - three movie previews
I am excited about some movies, even though I do not know when I will feel safe to go to a theater to watch any of them, if they even appear in theaters when scheduled, two of these for this year yet after previous delays. And even when the films debut in physical theaters, I may not feel safe to go see the films there.
I have read the novel Dune several times (four, maybe?), and I am considering reading it again in advance of this film as I could use a refresher of its complex cast of characters and situations.
I wrote previously of the upcoming Dune movies (this one is part one of two of the adaptation of the first book) in a blog post just over a month ago:
A Sense of Doubt blog post #2005 - DUNE previews.
The new preview for Dune, just released yesterday, and it looks fantastic!
The other two previews came up as I watched Dune, so I chose to include them. I could share many more that are on my radar, such Wonder Woman and James Bond No Time To Die.
The trailer for the new Batman movie due next year looks like an even more violent exploration of Batman as a gritty, dark, sadistic brute who may be mentally unhinged. I do love that depiction as long as there's a Brice Wayne to humanize him, which this film seems to have.
The Black Widow film also looks great, as I am a huge fan of the character and of Johansson's portrayal of her.
I am still in "break mode" with the blog, so that's it. Enjoy the movie previews.

The Batman (film)
The Batman is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced by DC Films and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a reboot of the Batman film franchise. The film is directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, with Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell rounding out the ensemble cast. The Batman is set during Batman's second year of fighting crime and follows him as he explores Gotham City's corruption and faces the Riddler, a riddle-obsessed serial killer.
After he was cast as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Ben Affleck began developing a DC Extended Universe (DCEU) Batman film with Geoff Johns, and was attached to direct, write, produce, and star. In January 2017, Affleck stepped down from directing and writing after struggling with the story and so he could focus on playing Batman. Reeves took over directorial and scripting duties the following month and reworked the story to focus on a younger Batman, hoping to emphasize the detective aspect of the character to a greater extent than previous films. Affleck stepped down from all involvement in January 2019, and Pattinson was cast the following May. The film's connections to the DCEU were subsequently eliminated. Principal photography began in London, England in January 2020 but was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in early September, but was halted again a few days later after Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19.
The Batman is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021. Two sequels are planned, while a spin-off prequel television series is in development for HBO Max.
Black Widow (2020 film)
Black Widow is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Cate Shortland and written by Eric Pearson from a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz. Set after Captain America: Civil War (2016), the film sees Romanoff on the run and forced to confront her past.
Development of a Black Widow film began in April 2004 by Lionsgate, with David Hayter attached to write and direct. The project did not move forward and the film rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios by June 2006. Johansson was cast in the role for several MCU films beginning with Iron Man 2 (2010). Marvel and Johansson expressed interest in a solo film several times over the following years, before Schaeffer and Shortland were hired in 2018. Benson joined in early 2019, with Pearson added later. Filming took place from May to October, in Norway, Budapest, Morocco, Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, and in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia.
Black Widow is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 6, 2020, as the first film in Phase Four of the MCU. Its release was delayed from an original May 2020 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
