A Sense of Doubt blog post #3288 - SPACE GHOST RETURNS! Comic Book Sunday for 2402.18

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3288 - SPACE GHOST RETURNS! Comic Book Sunday for 2402.18

As usual, I interrupt what I had planned -- not that you know what it was -- for BREAKING NEWS and because the thing I had been working on (Speedy, Green Arrow, Spider-Man, drugs, and the 1970s) is going take me some time to put together.

And then I saw this BREAKING NEWS!!!

One of my all-time favorite characters is returning to comics.

SPACE GHOST!!

Today is a happy day. Thanks for tuning in.

Happy Comic Book Sunday.

Dynamite has announced that this May, Space Ghost, the legendary guardian of the spaceways, will return to comics. The publisher is partnering with Warner Bros and Discovery Global Consumer Products as well as writer David Pepose and artist Jonathan Lau for a new era for the hero.

Read more below:

Greed and corruption flourish in the darkness between stars. The Galactic Federation’s territories are spread across the cosmos, far and wide in the vastness of space. At the scale of the cosmic landscape, pirates, hijackers and other nefarious actors are able to slip stealthily through the pitch black, ransacking distant colonies with cruel disregard for the innocent scientists that inhabit them. They’ve often been able to get away with impunity. Yet a powerful force is set to put a stop to this, a cosmic vigilante who metes out justice throughout the known galaxy, bringing vengeance to those who prey upon the defenseless.

Evil cannot hide from the gaze of Space Ghost!

“I’m so excited to be diving into the world of Space Ghost!,” said Pepose. “When Dynamite first approached me about tackling this series, I was immediately struck by the sheer amount of raw material we had to play with — the cartoons were immensely stylish and a heck of a lot of fun, but they never had the time to develop those characters beyond their powers and the roles they played in each episode. So we’re taking those classic vibes and using them as a starting point to dig even deeper into the characters than the original cartoons were ever able to.”

Dynamite also shared:

His true origins and motivations are unknown to many. Some claim he is a policeman who abandoned the rigidity of the law. Others contend he must be the sole survivor of a war-torn planet. Or a phantom with no story. Those who have survived his wrath live to tell he is a force of nature, able to bend the very elements of creation to deal with his foes.

He goes by Space Ghost and his adventures start here in an all-new comic book series. Award-winning writer David Pepose takes the captain’s seat on this cosmic adventure, following critically acclaimed work on titles including Punisher, Moon Knight: City of the Dead, and Spencer & Locke. He’s joined by a Dynamite all-star in Jonathan Lau, who has delivered many of Dynamite’s most action-packed hits like Vampirella Strikes, Green Hornet, and Red Sonja: Age of Chaos.

The team invites fans for the kickoff — a surprise attack on Space Colony Omicron, home of brilliant scientist Dr. Jerrod Keplar, his young children Jan and Jace, as well as their monkey Blip. Only the wild card of Space Ghost will be able to save them from the ruthless pirates!

Look for covers by Francesco Mattina, Jae Lee, Bjorn Barends, and Michael Cho.

Space Ghost debuted as a beloved cartoon from Hanna-Barbera in the 1960s, designed by visionary artist Alex Toth. The character has been presented in several unique ways beloved by fans across animation, comic books, and beyond.

Space Ghost #1 is slated for release in May 2024 and will be available for preorder in March. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
