A Sense of Doubt blog post #4259 - Letter to Dad #57 - Reading Tomb of Dracula Continues and Other News

A Sense of Doubt blog post #4259 - Letter to Dad #57 - Reading Tomb of Dracula Continues and Other News

Hi Big Guy, I am still underway with my project to re-read Marvel's Tomb of Dracula but it's slow going at one or two issues a night. That's why I am only up to this issue, number ten, the introduction and debut of the character Blade.

Such a great series.

I finished the sequel to Three Body Problem -- The Dark Forest -- which I didn't like quite as much as the first book but it was still good. I have issues with this Asian fascination with a feminine ideal of beauty that is child-like. It's creepy.

I am still reading the Robin Hobb book, Assassin's Apprentice, in which I am making less progress because of the TOD read.

I didn't really know Robin Hobb's work at all other than hearing her name from time to time.

Apparently, she is a much beloved fantasy writer and has, as you can see in the image above, a lot of books.

I like Assassin's Apprentice and may go onto other books, though not immediately.

I listened to an abridged dramatization of Bram Stoker's Dracula with Maggie Gyllenhaal. I need to do more research on Bram Stoker as I know very little about him. I thought he was Scottish not Irish.

I am now listening to the second Dungeon Crawler Carl book, Carl's Doomsday Scenario, which is pretty good.

I am behind schedule again, so it's Sunday as I type this and I have football on and also fantasy basketball drafts.

Clinical work is going very well. The only negative is the long drive, but it gives me time to talk with people on the phone and listen to audio books and some Baseball as the post-season progresses. Unlikely to have any more day games after today because the NLCS is decided (Brewers swept the Dodgers) and the ALCS is tied 2-2, though after today all the games are at night.

Had dinner in Portland Friday night and spent some time in a coffee shop before hand as I got there early. I love Portland.

Today (Sunday) is supposed to be just a self care day, and I will get that started after this next fantasy draft that starts any second.

Dogs are fine, though Essel is scared of the water fountain I bought, which is mainly for her because of the acne she has developed. Satchel seems to be carrying on with her congestive heart failure. Ellory had an upset tummy yesterday (Saturday), but she's fine now.

I have my space heater on as it's 45 degrees outside.

I have chicken marinating that I need to grill today. I also need to do some other chores and walk the dogs, but not until after I rest and read on the couch with football on, that's my self care routine. I have learned that if I put off that activity until after I do all the chores and things that I either don't get to the self care at all or have an abbreviated session.

OH!!

My favorite Tigers cup for drinking water is shattered.

I had been thinking of using it year around instead of switching to my Lions and Pistons cups on which the tops do not secure as tightly, that do not have the recessed top for dog treats as Ellory almost always wants her bedtime treat IN BED, and do not have handles.

Satchel tried to go up the stairs before I could grab her and carry her up, and I did not have the cup squarely on the bannister top and it fell to the floor and shattered, water all over, and no longer can it hold water.

I did a reverse Google image search and found some alternatives, which I ordered. I am hoping I can ask Lori to watch for one exactly like this as I am sure I bought this one at Meijer.

I keep winning fantasy football in all leagues, the least two weeks:

WEEK FIVE

WEEK FOUR

That's about it for me.

Sorry that this is not more monumental or insightful. I am actually happy that my life is uneventful. I am very fortunate.

I miss you and Mom, Dad.

Love,
christopher

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
