A Sense of Doubt blog post #2094 - Thank you Veterans: Vet Day 2020
Originally, this post was going to be about a poem and Seamus Heaney and Joe Biden, but that can wait for tomorrow.
Because today is Veteran's Day, and it's important to thank veterans and the currently serving for their service and their sacrifice. For their heroism. For their patriotism.
How much do we do for Veterans?
19 million veterans in our country and do we think of them more often than once a year?
Many do. Many have family members serving. Many live with a veteran who may remind them from time to time that they served.
But do we perform random acts of kindness for our veterans.
Do we fight for them? For their care? For how hard hit they have been by Covid-19?
Don't just go hug a veteran.
Reach out to your senator, your representative on the national or state level to do more, to increase VA hospital funding, to offer more benefits, to give back to those who have given us our very freedom.
I am proud to say that I teach at a school that especially in the online college is almost exclusively currently serving, mostly Air Force, and veterans and their families. I thank every semester, more than once a semester.
My father served.
My father in law served.
My brother in law served.
My great uncles served.
I have had friends who served and who are serving now.
I have taught many who served, and I have thanked them.
Thank you. It's not enough, but it's a start.
We have more than 19 million veterans here in the US, says @chriscuomo on Veterans Day.

As we honor them and their families for their service and sacrifice... today is also about remembering our commitment to them: serving them as they have served us. pic.twitter.com/VCLIxJv4EE
All the best to our Best this Veteran's Day.

Hank is a man of action. So to say thank you for his service on #VeteransDay, we chose actions over words. With the help of everyone on Twitter, we set out to take the phrase “thank you for your service” and #MakeItMeanMore. Long story short: Hank, we’re paying off your mortgage.

This is my dad. He tried to enlist in WWII but couldn’t because of a severe stutter, “begged” his way into the Air Corps and served in Alaska. Used the GI Bill to become a prof of Speech Pathology to help others. My lifelong inspiration. #GratitudeMission pic.twitter.com/R9NCD5zBdp

This is my amazing Uncle Larry! He is a Vietnam veteran, who continues to serve the country as election official working 10+ hour days this week. #GratitudeMission pic.twitter.com/1npOss4xqj

Daddy, as a little girl I was angry when you left us for assignments. As an adult, I am so proud & appreciative of your sacrifice so that we could continue to experience freedom & live the lives we are blessed to live. #GratitudeMission #USAFVeteran pic.twitter.com/b1lRGccyDB

My Grandpa Seeger - served Coast Guard in WWII and Army during the Korean War. There was never a question where our sarcasm & sense of humor came from 🙃. - New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
