A Sense of Doubt blog post #2112 - Science Wonder Stories - Hugo Gernsback
INAUGURATION COUNTDOWN
52 DAYS to inauguration
I have been doing lots of political or activist themed posts on my blog this year and more in the last two months. I am trying to transition our of so many of those types of posts.
I like posting these types of cover galleries. Usually today is COMIC BOOK SUNDAY, and I promise to get back to regular comic book Sundays maybe starting next week. Today, I want to share the run of
Science Wonder Stories that then transformed into
Wonder Stories before continuing as
Thrilling Wonder Stories, which perhaps I will cover gallery another time, Science Fiction's Hugo Award is named for Hugo Gernsback, though the man was reprehensible crook, cheating writers of their earnings. Jack Williamson had to sue Gernsback to pay him. Atrocious. Gernsback published dozens and dozens of magazines in his life time, the most famous of which is arguably the seminal science fiction magazine
Amazing Stories, which began in 1926. Gernsback is seen here (left) wearing his television goggles, which he modeled for
Life magazine in 1963. Many referred to him as "Hugo the Rat." Funny that science fiction's great award (the "people's choice" award) is named for Hugo Gernsback.
Here's some links, and then the cover gallery.
Gernsback may have been a shit heel (what editor has to put his name on the cover of EVERY ISSUE??), but his influence on the genre is indisputable.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
