Terry Moore Announced as FCBD 2024 Commemorative Artist
Nov 15, 2023
We are incredibly excited to reveal the commemorative artwork for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) 2024. Fan-favorite creator Terry Moore has created a one-of-a-kind design featuring his beloved characters Francine and Katchoo, emphasizing the community and friendship that come from exploring the pages of a comic book. The design will serve as the commemorative t-shirt, poster, and vinyl sticker for FCBD 2024.
Under the banner of Abstract Studio, Terry Moore has been publishing his groundbreaking comics and graphic novels for almost thirty years. His award-winning work, Strangers in Paradise, carved out a unique space for him in the world of American comics. Debuting in 1993, when The Death of Superman and other super-hero titles were dominating comic book sales, Moore set out to explore a different narrative with Strangers in Paradise, one that would eventually be termed “slice-of-life dramedy.” The story centers on the lives of Francine and Katchoo, a pair of twenty-something best friends who eventually fall in love. The fan-favorite series features romance, action, intrigue, and Moore’s signature humor. Strangers in Paradise was in publication for fourteen years, during which time it received great critical and commercial acclaim, including wins for an Eisner Award, a Reuben Award, and a GLADD Award for Best Comic.
With Strangers in Paradise being reprinted in a four-volume trade paperback set in 2023 and 2024, Terry Moore provides the art for 2024's Free Comic Book Day Commemorative Artist T-Shirt, Poster, and, new for 2024, Vinyl Sticker. Featuring his beloved characters Francine and Katchoo doing something every comics fan loves to do — reading comics! — these products are the perfect way to celebrate your love of comics and art.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Terry Moore serving as our Commemorative Artist for FCBD 2024!” said Free Comic Book Day spokesperson, Ashton Greenwood. “Free Comic Book Day is all about celebrating the community comic books provide us. That means celebrating the importance of local comic shops and the way storytelling in comics allows us to bond with others. Terry’s art beautifully captures all of the things that make FCBD such a special event.”
The FCBD 2024 Commemorative T-shirt will be available in adult sizes small through XXXL (MSRP: $15.99-$21.99) and in youth sizes small through large (MSRP: $15.99). The Commemorative Poster will be 22” x 24” on a stone-wash gray background (MSRP: $11.99). The Commemorative Vinyl Sticker will be 3” wide on a white background; check with a retailer with for pricing. The shirt, poster, and vinyl sticker, along with a complete listing of all the FCBD 2024 comic book titles and exclusive collectibles, can be found in the December issue of the PREVIEWS catalog, available in comic shops on November 22, 2023.

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #540 - Carrie Fisher, RIP, you will be missed
|
Hi Mom,
What a helluva a year. I felt rocked hard enough by your passing away 542 days ago.
So many big name deaths this year.
And now Carrie Fisher, Richard Adams among all the others: Prince, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Florence Henderson, Alan Rickman, Muhammed Ali, Edward Albee, Patty Duke, Harper Lee, Elie Wiesel, José Fernandez, Darwyn Cooke, Umberto Eco, Pat Conroy, Glenn Frey, Keith Emerson, Tony Phillips, Gene Wilder, Anton Yelchin, Doris Roberts, and most of all how the year started with the loss of DAVID BOWIE.
I wrote about all this death here: Hey Mom #248 but that was back in March. So many more since then. I have a death category on the right in the category list to see other posts.
I repost Scalzi a lot. He's one of my go to choices as I follow his work closely. Though he nails it, I may re-post other work soon and add some more thoughts on this year of big name deaths not to mention the deaths of friends and loved ones. A close friend's father just died and a few weeks ago a friend's eighteen year old son died. Those deaths seem more tragic as they are closer to home.

RIP Carrie Fisher
Whoever made the edits wasn’t wrong. At least some of the edits to the scene (in which Leia, Han and Chewbacca plot a course to visit Lando Calrissian) made it to the final cut of the film. Simpler, tighter, better — and with the rhythm of speech rather than exposition (science fiction, forever the genre of people explaining things to other people). Carrie Fisher played a galactic princess, but she had a working writer’s gift for understanding how people talk, and how language works. At 22.

NOTE on time: When I post late, I had been posting at 7:10 a.m. because Google is on Pacific Time, and so this is really 10:10 EDT. However, it still shows up on the blog in Pacific time. So, I am going to start posting at 10:10 a.m. Pacific time, intending this to be 10:10 Eastern time. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom. But I am not going back and changing all the 7:10 a.m. times. But I will run this note for a while. Mom, you know that I am posting at 10:10 a.m. often because this is the time of your death.
sorry, can't find the original now... |

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
