I spend a lot of time not only reading but thinking about and planning what I am going to read.
As such, I have a TO READ book case filled with books I want to read and have not read yet, with a few exceptions of books I am planning to re-read. Although in the case of my Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books, I am just keeping them together, having re-read the first two already this year. The main stack of books likely to be read soon appears up top and again to the left.
Most of these books were recent Christmas and birthday gifts, though a couple are books I have had for a while. For instance, Seanan McGuire's Seasonal Fears, a sequel to the most excellent Middlegame. Though I remember loving the former, my memory of it is so fuzzy that I might want to re-read it before tackling the sequel. Or maybe I could just read an Internet summary, which is not nearly as good as a re-read but refreshes my poor memory well enough -- maybe.
I re-took these pictures today because I am often changing these stacks. For instance, Of Dice and Men had been a turned out book with it cover on display, but that luxury had to be changed when I needed to shelve more books. But then in my recent novel project work and reading of the new DIE series, I have been thinking about how RPG games came to be, specifically Dungeons and Dragons, and so I may read that book sooner rather than later.

Books near the bottom of this stack are likely ones that I may not get to soon with the possible exception of the Atwood memoir. The books are not really in a reading order because I let my whims dictate my choices, but I am likely to read the V.E. Schwab book next followed by the Antimimetics book (because it's short), though I am planning to listen to Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books in between some of these choices.
The picture to the right shows an auxiliary stack and the dust jacket of the current book being read: the first Dungeon Crawler Carl book, which is quite fun. I often consider books on Baseball as the season is about to begin. Of these, I am most likely to read Nnedi Okorafor's Death of the Author soon, though how soon depends on my mood not on my interest (because I adore her work, so I am very interested). Tanith Lee's the Birthgrave may get read with my eye balls in hammock time this summer as I read the second and third books in that trilogy last summer, which one can do given the story. But maybe the Baseball books? I don't know. I have owned Jim Boulon's book for at least ten years.
Upstairs in my bed room, I have a short stack of books I might read with my eye balls.

Above shows a close up of the top shelf. As you can see there are books BEHIND the ones facing out. This TO READ bookcase is very full of books. AND some had to be relegated to the library in the other room when more needed to be shelved, such as the two Bob Woodward books on Trump that I may never read.
Beyond that stack to the left that I described above, there is little rhyme or reason to these stacks. There's recently acquired books -- like the Adrian Tchaikovsky -- shelved with books I have meant to read for DECADES like Brideshead Revisited, and I have a good friend who will be very happy when I finally do read the Waugh book (and Donna Tartt in that same stack).
On the far right, I started reading the Dorsai books last year, so these may get shuffled in after I Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books. I bought a bunch of Tanith Lee books last summer as I like her writing a lot. And of course, I am long overdue to make some more progress through Pratchett's Discworld books.
BTW, The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin will be a re-read and may motivate me to read the next two in the series. I might re-read The Fifth Season with my eyes and not audio in the summer.
Above are close ups of the second and third shelves. As you can see, the bottom shelf is for smaller paperbacks. I am less likely to read any of these books this year; however, my mood can always cause me to elevate them in the potential reading stacks above. There's also quite a few re-read options mixed in to these stacks.
Below is the entire book case and the shrines to my parents that sit atop.
Upstairs in my bed room, I have a short stack of books I might read with my eye balls.
This is an old picture, as I have just read The Voyage of the Space Beagle, and I am now reading James Blish's A Case of Conscience, which is not pictured.
I added Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings since this photo was taken, which I may get around to reading.
Snow Crash by Stephenson I have read many times and may re-read again hence it's position.
And books from the to read case down stairs may find their way upstairs.
These are not all the books I own and have not read. There are many others in the library or in the book case I have in my office bath room. I like book cases because I love books.
However, I am trying to maintain a BOOK BUYING FREEZE, which does not include text books that I need for school or books that I need for fantasy Baseball. I did break down and buy a book about writing, but for the most part, since early January, I have refrained from buying more books, even though there are many books that I want.
That's my reading tale.
If you scrolled through this material, thank you (leave a comment!!).
Thanks for tuning in.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.

I have a lot of respect for you being willing to share the "to read" pile. It's amazing how fast those can build up. Miss ya, Tower. Wishing you the best while sitting next to my to-read stack in Germany.
Thanks whomever you are since you are anonymous and didn't sign the comment. I am trying to think of who I know in Germany...
