A Sense of Doubt blog post #4182 - Letter to Dad #46 - The 700 Club

A Sense of Doubt blog post #4182 - Letter to Dad #46 - The 700 Club

Hi Big Guy, 700 days that is.

I have written about my fixation with counting before.

I have also written about the strange synchronicity with numbers on your death, Dad, here:

Thursday, October 30, 2025

As for the counting of days since you and Mom died, it calms me.

At first, I started the count just because I wanted to keep track. When Mom had just died, I liked knowing how many days it had been.

When the days turned into weeks and the weeks became months, I didn't see the point in stopping the count. I kept the count in the sign off to the blog entry. And I liked keeping track, especially when the DAILY BOWIE posts changed the totals. Until Bowie died and I started extra posts, the Hey Mom number was always two ahead of the days since number. But then I started posting more. When I switched to Sense of Doubt posts, I renumbered with the total posts, which also included the SoD posts prior to starting HEY MOM.

Then when you died, Dad, it just seemed natural to keep a count for both of you.

The counting keeps me grounded, centered, on an even keel.

I know when I am with the days since counts. I know my place in time in the universe.

It measures my grief because I still miss you and Mom every day. It's not a sharp pain of missing you. It's just a fact. You're dead; I miss you.

Just facts.

And because I count, I have a measurement of that loss.

More next week.

I love you, Dad.

- Days ago: MOM = 4046 days ago & DAD = 700 days ago

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
