Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #469 - Lots o' Readings #01

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #469 - Lots o' Readings #01

Hi Mom,

I have this bad habit of finding articles while searching on my phone or tablet and then emailing them to myself. Before long, I have dozens of article links in emails clogging my in box, which is clogged as it is with back log going back over seven years. With far too many articles to re-post or comment on individually, I am taking this approach, which I have done before but didn't refer to it with a name and a number in a series. But and so, here it is. A repository of stuff, much like my most boring Tumblr ever, which is also a series of articles that I want to save and have access to in some way.

So, this post is full of links, and I decided to leave the links in raw URL form rather than hiding them in text labels. Okay, not completely true. There are some text labels. But most of the links are just linked addresses. That said, the content of what you will find in the link is pretty obvious from the address.

I know, Mom, that you would not read most of what's on this page. Some of it, surely. But mostly, you would skip it. I really like the AEON site so much I created a category for it and saved some good reads below. There's also stuff on Trump and the election and Clinton and the election. I did some reading on Noam Chomsky for the class I am taking, so I have some stuff on that. There's things my teacher shared with me on Sonia Sotomayor's fiery speech to the Supreme Court on diversity and on stop and frisk, which I missed, because often I exist in a news blackout, especially when it comes to politics and world affairs, not because I am not interested, but because I have to manage how depressing what I learn will make me, and I need to productive and not depressed so that I can write run on sentences like this one, though I believe that this is actually not a run on in a technical sense.

Mainly, this is a post for me to keep open on various devices to be have quick access to things I want to read because, for the most part, I have read very little of the material linked to this page.

It would be great if I had already read much of this and I was RECOMMENDING it. Granted, I have glanced at it, read at high speed some, verified my interest in all of it, but beyond that I have done little deep reading let alone thinking and concluding that would allow me to make comments here that may spark further interest or even convince someone to read some of what's linked here. I am sure as I read, I will have future content dedicated to some of this material. And so it goes.

Readers other than you, Mom, may find some things of interest. Since I see myself as a content provider, this attempt to increase interest seems important or at least worthwhile.

Do check out Aeon, especially.

And now to the readings...

NOTE on time: When I post late, I had been posting at 7:10 a.m. because Google is on Pacific Time, and so this is really 10:10 EDT. However, it still shows up on the blog in Pacific time. So, I am going to start posting at 10:10 a.m. Pacific time, intending this to be 10:10 Eastern time. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom. But I am not going back and changing all the 7:10 a.m. times. But I will run this note for a while. Mom, you know that I am posting at 10:10 a.m. often because this is the time of your death.
