Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #956 - NOETIC - Podcast list and Pocket Cast

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #956 - NOETIC - Podcast list and Pocket Cast

Hi Mom,

This is kind of a catchall devoted to podcasts and the word "noetic," which just happened to be in a queue of links near some of the podcasts I shared, just like the image I took of "noetic" from THE FREE DICTIONARY was near two other images in my folder that I just decided to randomly include. The word "noetic" seemed apt for this podcast list post.

I hope you find many good things to listen to.

Here, I borrow much of Warren Ellis' podcast list that he shared last June with his subscribers plus others I have collected as possible things worth listening to.

iTunes has a podcast subscription service, and I do like it for music once I get something set up, which is often a pain. But Pocket Casts is much nicer, so if you're looking for a podcast app that synchs across devices, check out Pocket Casts. There's a one time $9 fee for using it, but it's a ONE TIME fee, which is very nice.

POCKET CASTS

Pocket Casts web player lets you enjoy podcasts in your browser

The best podcast client on mobile is now available in your browser. Shifty Jelly has today made its Pocket Casts web player available for limited beta testing, and it delivers all of the awesome features you’ve long been enjoying on Android and iOS.

If you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer like I do, using a desktop podcast client can have its advantages.

Not only does it mean you’re not draining the battery on your smartphone or tablet while you’re working, but you don’t have you take your eyes off the screen and get distracted by other things when you want to fast forward through some ads or switch shows. You can also play your content through much louder speakers if you wish to.

These are just a few of the reasons why you might love the new Pocket Casts web player beta. Another one is support for Pocket Casts sync, so you can sign in with your existing account and get instant access to all your favorite shows — and sync your progress so that you can continue listening from where you left off on all of your devices.

Not everyone gets access to Pocket Casts on the web just yet, though. It’s a limited beta, so you’ll need to request access if you want to try it out. You can do that via the source link below.

PODCASTS!!

RADIOTOPIA
Radiotopia is a collection of "cutting-edge" podcasts curated by PRX, a media company that distributes content to public radio. And This one in particular: 99% INVISIBLE among many others, such as Ear Hustle, The Truth, and Theory of Everything.

Roman Mars’s  99% INVISIBLE  is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world. With over 150 million downloads, 99% Invisible is one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Based in beautiful, downtown Oakland, CA.

For example, my friend John suggested that I check out some from the SHOWCASE program, an episode called the Polybius Conspiracy. I haven't checked it out yet, but this is my book mark.

The Polybius Conspiracy

ORIGINALLY AIRED FALL 2017
The Polybius Conspiracy is a seven-part series, originally heard on Showcase, which tells the complex story of two men united by a decades-old urban legend. Polybius, a mysterious arcade game from the '80s whose alleged existence in the Pacific Northwest is fueled by myth and an obsessive online fan base, and which may have factored in the abduction of two teenage boys. Told as a hybrid documentary/fictional story, the series is an artful meditation on how urban legends take hold and spread, and an exploration into how we consume and perpetuate information in the internet age.

Dan Savage is a well known sex advice columnist from his work in Seattle's alternative weekly The Stranger. Savage launched his podcast -- the Savage Lovecast -- in 2006; it's a weekly call-in advice podcast and ranks in iTunes top fifty podcasts. He offers free "micro" podcasts (about 50-minutes per) and pay-to-play MAGNUM podcasts with exclusive content.

His current episode as I share is #590 and aired on Feb. 13th 2018. It's entitled "A Gay Cuckolding Study with Dr. Justin Lehmiller."

SAVAGE LOVECAST

ABOUT SAVAGE LOVECAST - PODCAST

Maybe more my speed is this one:

THE LIMINAL PODCAST - cool podcast on the future - This is The Liminal, a podcast about conscious metaphysical speculation and the future of minds.

It does not have too many episode so far since its launch in July of 2017, but it's a great, though occasional, podcast.

And there's more music...

SYNDAE PODCAST - shared via WARREN ELLIS - ambient music podcast

SYNDAE PODCAST EPISODE 388

PODBEAN is a hosting service for podcasts. There's a free level and various pay levels, starting as low as $3 monhtly, charged in one $36 fee for the year.

In another Ellis recommendation, there's this ambient mix -- A DUCK IN A TREE, described as
":zoviet*france: present A Duck in a Tree, a 60 minute continuous mix of some of the best genre-refusing, zero BPM, hypnatropic and maximinimalist recordings that have grabbed their attention."

Here's the episode Ellis brought to my attention:

EPISODE 247 FROM 1704.01

Lastly, before the big list generated by Ellis, all of which feature links to the various podcasts, here's a BBC RADIO 4 PODCAST episode on Seneca the younger that's quite good and worth a listen.

Here's the main link to BBC RADIO 4 and the specific link to the IN OUR TIME podcast programme.

NEW (written 1708.27) NOTE on time: I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of your death, Mom, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of your death, Mom. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom.
