A Sense of Doubt blog post #1300 - Teaching in the Internet Age

A Sense of Doubt blog post #1300 - Teaching in the Internet Age

I am grading robot today as I have fallen behind and I cannot catch up. So, just this quick share, more of a place holder, really, More for me than for readers, though some may find this interesting.

Technology as an e-learning challenge

What stands on the path to success for your adult students? Potential obstacles they face are many: working more than one job, small kids, aging parents, lack of support, being away from school for too long... The list goes on. But there is also technology.
Technology?

In the world surrounded by technology it may be hard to believe that some among us are struggling with technology. Using technology in everyday life and for entertainment purposes is different from using technology to learn. The fact one can text with their eyes closed does not help with being able to efficiently locate research articles in an online database. Educators need to assist students with using technology to get the best out of their learning experience.

This short article describes a profile of a non-traditional adult student and challenges she faced obtaining her education at a distance.  Some students many come from a similar background. They may face fear and lack of skills and experience with technology. Understanding where students come from is the first step in being able to help.

In the second part of the article, the author proposes some solutions. What tips would you add?  How do you help your students overcome technology challenges?

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
