A Sense of Doubt blog post #1468 - Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen Series is Coming to HBO Next Year!
Hey...
So I did a bevy of WATCHMEN posts a few weeks back when my students were working on the novel, but I saved some material to do a separate post on the upcoming TV show, adding some new links and a video.
I also wanted a place to stash Lindelof's letter to fans, which is the last thing in the post.
I have to say that I am getting kind of excited for this series!

“The reality it inhabits is one that feels quite authentic. It’s not here, it’s not now, it’s something slightly sideways.”

Watchmen Coming in 2019
Damon Lindelof's revamp will be here before you know it.
Watchmen has officially joined HBO‘s 2019 lineup. Here’s everything to know so far about Damon Lindelof's new series.
What’s the story? Based on the Alan Moore graphic novel, Watchmen is set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws. And while Lindelof (The Leftovers) plans to embrace the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel, the series will also attempt to break new ground of its own. He announced his intentions earlier this spring on Instagram.
Who will I recognize? Hong Chau (HBO's Big Little Lies and Treme) is the latest actor to join the cast. You can also expect to see Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune); Regina King (The Leftovers); Golden Globe-winner Don Johnson (Miami Vice); Emmy-winner Jean Smart (Fraiser and Samantha Who?) as an FBI agent investigating a murder; Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow); Frances Fisher (Titanic); Jacob Ming-Trent (Superfly); Tim Blake Nelson (Lincoln, HBO’s Warm Springs); Oscar-winner Louis Gossett Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman); Andrew Howard (The Brave, Boardwalk Empire); Yahya Abdul-Matteen II (First Match), Sara Vickers (Endeavor); James Wolk (Tell Me a Story) and Dustin Ingram (True Blood).
Who are the new faces to watch out for? Also joining the cast are young actors Dylan Schombing (Sharp Objects, Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries), and Adelynn Spoon.
Who about the music? Nine Inch Nails musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (who first worked together as film composers on The Social Network) will be creating the original music for the series.
What’s going on behind the camera? Lindelof, who will be a writer on the show, will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Nicole Kassell and Tom Spezialy. Kassell (Westworld, The Leftovers) is slated to direct the pilot episode. Additional executive producers are director Stephen Williams and Joseph Iberti. The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on characters from DC.
What should I watch while I wait? Check out The Leftovers to get a sense of Lindelof’s work on HBO, or Westworld if you are looking for another new spin on good guys vs. bad guys.

Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen Series is Coming to HBO Next Year!
Stubby the Rocket
HBO is adding superheroes to its roster of bratty dragons and robot cowboys: the latest adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal comic Watchmen has officially received a series order! And…it’s premiering next year? And the cast is enormous?
Click through for all the details we’ve got so far!
According to EW, the show will hit the network some time in 2019, along with Game of Thrones‘ final season and the long-awaited return of True Detective. There still aren’t many details on the show, which will be headed up by Damon Lindelof, but we do know that they’re keeping the basic premise of a society that treats once-legal superheroes as outlaws. HBO has also announced a giant cast, including Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon…. but they haven’t specified who is playing whom?
Since your guess are as good as ours, we invite you to suggest them in the comments! What do you think? Will anyone watch Watchmen? Will Alan Moore be disgruntled?

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
