A Sense of Doubt blog post #1840 - David Byrne on SNL 2002.29 - "Once in a Lifetime" - Musical Monday 2003.02

I have always been a huge fan of David Byrne and all he does. I talk about Talking Heads and My Life in the Bush of Ghosts every semester. I just did that talk and collected BUSH OF GHOSTS content here:

So, I was thrilled to see Bryne returning to SNL Saturday.

I was also excited to see a performance of "Toe Jam" that Byrne did with Dizzee Rascal, a rapper I learned of many years ago and kept on my radar as a talent to watch.

Today's Musical Monday is devoted to the two SNL performances because NBC helps... Thanks SNL.

David Byrne is performing on Saturday Night Live this weekend in what’s shaping up to be a big 2020 for the rock legend. His show, American Utopia, is coming back to Broadway in the fall for another run of shows and it’s getting a film version directed by Spike Lee.
But before all that, he’ll be on SNL opposite host John Mulhaney, and a particularly robust spread of promos for the show has been released today. Byrne goofs off opposite Mulhaney and Heidi Gardner, who appears in a promo for the first time and gets coronated by the both of them. They all seem like they’re having a good time.

The song was composed by and features musician David Byrne[2] and rapper Dizzee Rascal. The song was listed at number 14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 best songs of 2008.[3]
The music video for the song, directed by Keith Schofield, predominately features naked dancing men and women. The censor bars placed over their genital areas and the females' breasts form figures on the screen. The music video received much attention on the Internet.[4]

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.

I think my favorite part of the evening was Road to Nowhere as part of the LaGuardia skit.

Agreed unknown person! :-) I liked that part a lot, too, and considered featuring the clip here and changed my mind.
