A Sense of Doubt blog post #3401 - Kit Sebastian - my newest favorite band - Music Monday for 2406.10

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3401 - Kit Sebastian - my newest favorite band - Music Monday for 2406.10

Greetings to Music Monday for June 10th.

As I have written on this blog before, I love comparing how I discover new music now versus how I found new music before the Internet.

I do not remember how I cam across Kit Sebastian. It's possible it was a You Tube recommendation, but I think it was actually a review in a paper copy of Mojo, which is very old school.

In whatever way it happened discover Kit Sebastian I did, and they are my new favorite band.

I love this Sixties, jazz and bossanova inflected style added to the Euro flavor and the Turkish origins of this duo, I am in love.

The don't even have a Wikipedia page!

I have assembled the general links, some reviews and interviews, playlists of the two full-length albums, and a few other tracks, some live, and some cool videos that repeat from the albums , such as "Agitate" and "Durma."

All the videos on this page (except the last one) are collected here:

Thanks for tuning in.

Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Turkish:
Yeniden boyanır zihnin karanlık renklere
Gün yeniden başlasa da
Rutinine mahkum yaşamına
En mutsuz şekilde uyandığında
Nerede o seni sarhoş eden hayallerin
Günden güne kaybolan ilgilerin
Şarkıları bile bayat kederlerinin
Arzuları bile kokmuş libidonla örtüşmeyen gerçekliğinin

Ruhu kapkarara, bir ormanın icinde tek başına yürürken
Canlanan ağaçlar seni gizli bir madene çağırırken
Uyandığın o rüya, asla sonu olmayan o rüya
Burada bitiyor olabilir mi
Uyan, uyan, uyan, uyan

Çocukken gözlerini kapadığında duyduğun o melodi
Hala aklında

Kaç kurtul, uyan, kaç kurtul
Derhal harekete geç
Durma durma durma

English:

DON'T STOP

A new day starts and yet
Your mind dyes itself dark again.
When you wake glumly to a life
In thrall of drabness and routine
Where are the dreams that used to be your vine?
Where are your interests, fewer every day?
Stale songs even your grief would sing,
And your deluded libido
Would but rotten desires proffer.

That dream from which you woke
As you walked, dark-souled, in a forest alone,
As trees stirred calling to a hidden mine –
That never-ending dream –
Could it end here?
Awake! Awake! Awake! Awake!

You still recall the melody
That as a child you closed your eyes to hear.

Break away, wake up, escape,
Act now
Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop.

Lyrics:

Don’t try
To hide
You’re here
To die

Burn their busts and
Dance in their hell
Yell their names and
Dust off their spell

Lay bare
Their lies
Fear their
Big smiles

Ah, bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Hatırla, kaybolma (Remember it, don’t get lost)
Bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Unutup, yok olma (Don’t forget, don’t fade away)

Now, fire!
Your arms
This storm
Saves us

Wash yourself of
Their laws and crowns
Move in the dark
Purer than clouds

Ah, bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Hatırla, kaybolma (Remember it, don’t get lost)
Bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Unutup, yok olma (Don’t forget, don’t fade away)
Ah, bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Hatırla, kaybolma (Remember it, don’t get lost)
Bu bir büyük rüya (This is a big dream)
Unutup, yok olma (Don’t forget, don’t fade away)

Kit Sebastian

Sep 19, 2022
In the middle of August 2019, two days after their debut album release show, the duo, Kit Sebastian, fly to Tours airport to shoot what they think will be a promotional film on celluloid Super 8.

There, they plan to shoot on 2-3 reels for their rapidly approaching French physical release, showcasing the duo in an easily digestible format for French audiences. The results however, turn out to be the opposite, an antithesis of their initial plan. The script and list of shots written on the days of shooting follow a transformative and experimental style employing concepts such as silence, discontinuity and repetition to destabilize the narrative coherence and the lucidity of meaning expected from a promotional film. The dissolution of the narrative helps the duo to play with a plurality of voices and a fragmented yet harmonious imagery while echoing the recording methods of the album, Mantra Moderne.

The film becomes both an intimate portrayal of the duo exploring their aesthetic world, and a critique of themselves, their ideas, and their authenticity. The bilingual script drifts between abstraction and realism, serving both as a snapshot of the duo immediately after their debut album, and a filmic essay exploring their medium, language and reality. As they attempt to explain the meaning of their album and its title, the tension between pastoral scenes and industry unconsciously creates an environment paralleling this opposition.

Filmed on 5 reels of Kodak 50D and 1 reel of Kodak 200T film, in the area largely where their album was recorded. The audio was recorded on cassette to respect the medium.

A film by Merve Erdem, Kit Martin
Co-written by James Foster
Colour grading by Munéyuki Sugiyama
Narrated by Nicolas Roys
Special thanks to Andrei Pacuraru

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
