A Sense of Doubt blog post #3873 - Letter to Dad #003 for Thursday September 25th

1973 - summer - presidential suite? Did I take this picture?

A Sense of Doubt blog post #3873 - Letter to Dad #003 for Thursday September 25th

Note to readers: My Dad is the Big Guy, also BG or Beej.

Hi Dad, This one's going to be stream of consciousness for 20 minutes or so.

I am not meeting my goal to fill up these posts throughout the week, and I am once again behind schedule and writing this on Friday, the 26th, the day after this was due to publish.

Concerning the picture on top, I do believe that it shows you two on the balcony of the presidential suite of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and supposedly was from 1973. I thought we only stayed in the suite one year but maybe not. I do remember staying there right after newly sworn-in president Gerald R. Ford, who took office either August 9th or 10th 1974, right after Nixon resigned.

Still, it's a great picture.

I want to use these letters to just tell you stuff, Big Guy, but not anything too private that I would be unwilling to publish.

Like the end of the cute USB drives. Mimobot has gone out of business ending my easy access to cute USB drives with Batman, Einstein, etc. My last Batman and Einstein drives both failed, my Snoopy drive failed, my R2D2 drive is way too big and clumsy to use. Last year, I bought a little cute astronaut USB drive but transfer rates to it were so slow, and slower as it filled, that I grew increasingly frustrated with it, finally giving up for a non-descript, no cute icon/image drive from Sandisk that works beautifully.

Readers may tune in to discover that I still back up files to my USB drive. I have a system that I started when I still had the Batcave computer at your house, Beej.

As I alter files, they go on the main USB drive. Daily, I transfer them to my laptop. Weekly, I transfer them from the "new files" folder on the main USB drive to the archive of CBT files on the drive (sorting into the various folders) and then backing up all that to another USB (currently Boba Fett who has served me well for many years and has not yet died -- knock on wood). When I was still in Michigan, then, that drive would be taken to the Bat Cave and those files backed up on that computer. I don't do that anymore.

Not often enough, I back up everything to at least one back up hard drive. I also have a second computer in my office for playing videos and music (or streaming Baseball, which I am about to do), and occasionally I back up everything to that computer.

Speaking of computers, Windows via Microsoft keeps telling me that my desktop PCs (not sure about my laptop) will not run Windows 11. For years, that's been okay, as I did not like Windows 11 when I used it at work.

However, I just did some quick research and that's all bullshit. My PCs do meet the MINIMUM requirements for Windows 11. So I do not need to upgrade my tech to run Windows 11 if I choose ito do so.

But I do not wish to choose to do so.

I HATE alleged computer upgrades that decrease rather than increase productivity. I know where everything is in Windows 11, like the start menu. Windows 11 changed all that and made it much more difficult to find things.

I am going to hold out. I am not too concerned about losing security updates in October when Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10. I would prefer to keep using Windows 10, though I suspect at some point I will need to upgrade.

I could go on and on, BG, but that's for future weeks.

I love you, and I miss you and Mom.

I think about you both all the time every day.

Type at you next week.

Love,
christopher

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
