A Sense of Doubt blog post #1663 - Students and Introductions Fall 2018
I should have posted this back in the Fall of last year, but better late than not at all.
Some of the links are defunct.
I chose the picture above because Iman is displaying a love of college (at least I am saying it's that) that I see all the time in first year students.
I copied a few of their introductions into this entry.
Mainly, this one's here for my own bookkeeping.
I appreciate all of these students so much.
Not all of these links work anymore.

Iman Hesham Ayad is currently a Freshman at Concordia University. She was on March 16, 2000 in Oregon. She grew up in Beaverton her whole life and has lived in the same house for 13 years. She lives with her Mom, Araceli F Ayad and her older sister Nabila. Her other sister, Elia, lives in an apartment with her husband Aaron and her 2 and a half year-old son Oliver. Her dad passed away when she was thirteen. Her mom is Mexican and her dad was Egyptian, so she got the best of both worlds by growing up in two different cultures. As she grew older she gained and lost a lot of friends and has finally found a couple of good ones to stick by. Her best friend Christian is 17 and is currently doing online school for college. He’s her rock, she tells him everything. Lily is another close friend and is 17 as well but is now a Senior in high school. She’s very kind and very down to earth.
This is Iman in Egypt in 2017. |
Ayad’s mother’s side of the family is very musically talented so growing up music took a very big place in her life. Her uncle’s, when they were in Mexico, formed a band together and would play at venues. Her sister, Nabila, is also musically inclined and is a singer. In Fact she has a song out that she wrote the lyrics too and sang in and her friend produced and she is currently writing another one. In Ayad’s elementary school days, she was interested in learning the piano and so she taught herself a few songs but the more life happened the less she was interested in learning the piano.
When she was 12 her school offered a band program and she decided to play the drums, which surprisingly she was very good at. After a year, she decided to drop band and stopped playing instruments altogether. Since music was always around her, music is very important to her to this day. She mostly listens to music that is more on the Alternative side or just very calming and chill music. Some of her favorite artists are Laurel, Bastille, Matt Maeson, and Little Mix.
This was taken at the Red Sea with Ayad's family. On the left is her sister Nabila and her mom Araceli. |
She continued to stay in the arts through theater. In Elementary school she was in two plays, School House Rocks and Seussical the Musical. In middle school she was only in one which was about Greek Mythology. In high school she was in two. The first one was The Election and the last one she did was called Curtains.
Iman Ayad was always interested in helping people ever since a young age and decided to spend her time in High School volunteering as much as she could. She did simple things like being a camp counselor and reading to elementary school kids. No matter how mundane the projects were as long as she was helping in some way she was happy.
This was back in 2017 and Iman Ayad meet her favorite author. |
Growing up Ayad wasn’t a big reader but then one day her sixth grade teacher read her class The Hunger Games and she fell in love with books. Some of her favorites include The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, and The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor. Where books didn’t take place when she was younger, TV and movies did. Growing up her father was a huge Will Smith fan, so all of the movies and shows that she would watch would have Will Smith star in them. Her favorite movies are any in the Men in Black series, Phantom of the Opera, and any Disney movie. Some of her favorite shows are Kim Possible, Revenge, and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Something that is very important to Iman Ayad is her love for Will Smith. Naturally since her father was a huge fan she became one herself as well. She is so enamored with Will Smith that when she was 13 she wrote a letter to him and two years later she received one back and has had it hung up ever since.
This was Ayad's cast for her latest show Curtains. |
As stated before, Ms. Ayad has always has had a passion for helping people, so she decided to become a Psychologist and wants to specialize in Trauma Psychology, with children specifically. Her dream is to have her own practice and to have her own Foster home or become a Foster parent and to have so many Foster children that it might as well be a Foster home. But for now she just wants to do well in school and finish strong. Or to at least finish.

Peyton Strade’s Blog
Welcome to the life of Peyton
Introduction-
My name is Peyton Strade, I am from St. Helens Oregon. I am a freshman at Concordia University and I am the youngest of two. I was born in Portland Oregon but moved to St. Helens when I turned 6 years old. Even though I lived in St. Helens I was still In Portland every weekend visiting friends and family. Growing up in my house there was my dad Sean, my mom Michele and My sister Haley and I. Outside of immediate family my family is huge. I have more aunts, uncles and cousins than I can keep up with. It seems like every month a new baby is born into my family. On my moms side of the family I am mainly Irish and on my dads side of the family I am German. I am the first redhead to be born in my family since my Great Grandma.
Family and Friends-
I value friends and family more than anything. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have my family and friends behind me. I spent my whole life constantly surrounded by my family and I would choose spending the night in with family over a party any day. My friends are also just as important to me. My best friend and I have been friends since birth and he was actually at the hospital waiting with his mom for me to arrive at two years old. My other friends include Payton, McKenzie and Tristan. We all are so close and do everything we can to see each other as often as we can and work around our busy schedules. I confide in my family and friends for everything and can honestly say I don’t know how I would survive without them.

About Me
About Me
My name is Alaina Kaylie
Kilinahemalieokalani Kedro. My middle name is Hawaiian and was given to me by my aunty who had it given to her in a dream. It means the soft gentle mist from the heavens above. I was born and raised in Kāneʻohe, Hawaiʻi on the island of Oʻahu.
I was raised in a traditional Hawaiian family with Hawaiian morals and values. I am very family oriented being that I have a very blended family. I was raised by my grandparents because my mom was a single parent and had to work a lot in order to provide for me. My mom met my step dad when I was around 1 and he became a really close man in my life. So when people ask, I always say that I have 4 parents. I have a very big family that goes on with our favorite saying "It takes a village." And it really did take a village to raise me. I am so blessed to have had this village as my support system.
My mom is a flight attendant for Hawaiian Airlines so we fly free. This also means that we travel a lot, which is one of my hobbies. My favorite places to travel to is Japan or Utah.

I went to an all Hawaiian private school since 4th grade called Kamehameha Schools. This is where I made all of my friends that I have today including my best friend, Kelsea Casabar, who is a sophomore here at Concordia and also my roommate.
My mom is a flight attendant for Hawaiian Airlines so we fly free. This also means that we travel a lot, which is one of my hobbies. My favorite places to travel to is Japan or Utah.
I was a competitive cheerleader for my school from 6th grade to sophomore year and I also cheered for Aloha Cheer Academy, which is an all-star team in Hawaii. I stopped cheering because of the three concussions that I got from it.
My senior year of high school I joined the speech and debate team and competed in Duo Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation. This became one of my passions. I enjoyed it so much because of my team and just the fact that you could really be yourself with no judgment.
My music taste includes rap, indie, country, Hawaiian and a lot more. I have a lot of favorite artists like The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Post Malone, Sam Smith and many more.
I am a book lover. I love reading any of John Greens books and Jennifer Niven. My favorite book is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven.
My short-term goals:
Quit my habits of procrastination and create better study habits.
Succeed in college and the nursing program.
Make as many memories as I can and try to be more social and make friends.
My long-term goals:
Explore as much of the world as I can and learn about all of the different cultures and religions.
Become a nurse.
Find a good job
Create a family of my own
Have a house in the country with my own garden and ranch with many animals.
ENGLISH 101 - LOWER COLUMBIA COLLEGE - FALL 2018
http://oliviabollinger.blogspot.com/2018/09/self-blog.html
Self Blog
My name is Olivia Bollinger, I am a 16 year old junior at Mark Morris high school. This is my first quarter attending the running start program at Lower Columbia College. The reason I decided to do the running start program was because in my opinion high school was full of drama and very few teachers really cared about their job. The teachers taught lessons that didn't make you critically think and I thought I needed more of a challenge, and graduating with my high school diploma and an AA would be a good advantage to have when applying to college. Talking about college my older brother Alex currently attends the University I hope to also attend. He is a sophomore at Graceland University, a private school in Lamoni, Iowa studying business and graphic design. I also have a younger sister that is a 7th grader at cascade middle school and an absolute busybody, having to be in every extra curricular activity and clubs in and outside of school. Without my amazing parents none of this would be possible, my Mother, Stacey who owns her own company, helping those who can't help them selves and Father, Marc who is the CEO of an insurance company out of Vancouver.
Like my sister I enjoy playing sports and doing other curricular activities. My personal favorite sports to participate in have to be soccer and running in track. Both sports I play currently at Mark Morris, and if I say so myself am not to bad at, making varsity for both and going to state for track my freshman year. Before all the games or events I love to listen to music to get me in the zone and ready. The music I listen to has no particular genre, though most of the time I listen to pop or rap music. When I'm not busy playing sports or jamming out to music my favorite thing to do is to sit at home with my friends, eating pizza and watching movies. In particular throw back movies like The Breakfast Club, Flashdance, or Footloose. On occasion if we actually find a scary movie, that's not horrible or cheesy, we would definitely watch that instead.
Inspiration is something important to have or find in life. Mine is to be successful in life, in high school, college, and whatever career I decide on. I know that's a really general and basic inspiration but its one that you definitely have to work hard for. To be successful in life I have to accomplish my short term and long term goals. My personal short term goals are in the next two years to graduate with honors for high school and an AA degree from LCC. In order to do so I need to finish up my final foreign language credit at Mark Morris. Then figure out which classes I need to take at LCC that cover both the last of my Mark Morris credits and the LCC credits needed to achieve my AA.
After graduation my plan was to also go to Graceland University like my older brother, manly because the school has one of the top medical programs and also my parents both love the school. Though I'm still looking into schools in North Carolina not just because the universities are good but because I want to get out of Longview and I think it is important to experience life somewhere else other then a small town in Washington. The reason a good medical program is essential is because the career I'm leaning towards is becoming a nurse practitioner. I'm still researching and volunteering at hospitals to experience and learn about other professions in the medical field to really get to know and understand wat I want to do. Thankfully since I'm still only a junior though I still have sometime before I officially decide on what I want to do for the rest of my life but hopefully my time at LCC will lead me in the correct path.

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
