A Sense of Doubt blog post #2535 - No, your Hateful t-shirt is not protected free speech
Learning about stuff like this makes me crazy, especially when it's the indoctrination of the youth.

But I always have to wonder why someone would wear a shirt like that to school, especially at her age. What is she threatened by?
And that stupid t-shirt is not even how 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 actually reads. Paul claims that adulterers, male prostitutes, and males who practice "homosexuality" are explicitly excluded from God's Kingdom, which is not technically claiming those acts are sinful. Paul adds women who engage in "homosexuality" in a passage in Romans.
However, in the very next verse, Paul explains that God DOES "save and sanctify" those people, so even if we do interpret the text as speaking of sin, since people are "saved from sin," then they are still saved and even sanctified if warranted.

Hardly, the same as "homosexuality is a sin."
AND there's a lot debate in translations as to whether the original text actually means what modern medical science termed "homosexuality," a word used for a mental disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders until technically 1990, though it was declassified in 1973.
(Wiki).
And so, this t-shirt = hateful. No place for that in school even if one can argue the appropriate skewing of a Biblical quote as "free speech," it's not.
What if I went to school with a shirt that shared the quote of say some religious person in another country, call him Overton, and according to the Bool of Overton I can share a quote that reads "Christians are the tool of the Devil and should be expunged from the Earth."

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
