A Sense of Doubt blog post 2515 - How did Madison Cawthorn get elected to NATIONAL congressional office??? He says DROP OUT OF COLLEGE!

A Sense of Doubt blog post 2515 - How did Madison Cawthorn get elected to NATIONAL congressional office??? He says DROP OUT OF COLLEGE!

Today was supposed to be a post about the one year of the insurrection at the capitol in Washington DC, but I have to teach; I am postponing the anniversary blog post until tomorrow.

Instead I present to you more idiocy from these "freshmen" congress persons somehow elected to FEDERAL office with no qualifications other than somehow managing to drum up enough support to get elected.

Why North Carolina? Why?

It seems to me that one of the very basic qualifications for NATIONAL public office (and maybe state or urban offices as well) is a COLLEGE DEGREE.

We need some qualifications to run for let alone be elected to public office at the Federal Level. Maybe at any level.

ANYONE can grow up to serve our country and maybe some day be president, but they need some education, some integrity, some code of conduct to which they are held accountable.

We, as a country, have to do better.

COME ON PEOPLE.

Not that I think college is the greatest thing for everyone, even though I am a college instructor, but I do think a college education is valuable and what Cawthorn implies with his advice to drop out is not only deeply stupid and ignorant but it's dangerous and it's another brick in the wall of the Totalitarian regime that might might be coming unless we put a stop to it.

THE RING OF FIRE

Madison Cawthorn, the Republican lawmaker who recently encouraged mothers to raise their sons to be "monsters", is once again doling out horrible advice to people. During his speech at the Turning Point USA Conference this week, Cawthorn told people that college was a "scam" and that they should drop out. A dropout himself, Cawthorn apparently doesn't believe that education is worthwhile, and Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why that is.

During his appearance this week at the Turning Point USA, uh, idiot conference, I guess we should call it, Madison Cawthorn decided to encourage young conservatives to not just not go to college, but to actually drop out if you're currently in college. Here's what he had to say. I think you should homeschool. I was homeschooled all the way through. Okay. Look, before I go any further, if that's not an endorsement for not homeschooling people, then I don't know what is. He continues. I am proudly a college dropout. Unless you are becoming a doctor or a lawyer or engineer, I highly encourage you to drop out. It's a scam, he says. Let's get something outta the way real quick. College is not for everybody. College is absolutely not for everybody. You can make a decent living not going to college. You can absolutely be successful and not attending college in no way is a reflection of your IQ or your capabilities as a human being.

However, encouraging people to drop out if they're already attending college. Of course, if you're not pursuing one of those three careers, he mentioned doctor, lawyer, engineer, that's stupid. That is what is stupid. College is an opportunity, an opportunity that Madison Cawthorn definitely could have benefited from. It's an opportunity to experience new things, to learn new things, to meet new people, just have new experiences as a whole. Everybody who's attended college can attest to that. It is a life changing event, usually for the positive. But in the case of Madison Cawthorn I understand, right? I mean, there's been reports that some of the women he did attend college with while he was attending college, accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior and of course he found his grift early on. So why finish college, right? You found what you're good at, fleecing people who are somehow even dumber than you, convincing them to vote for you as if you have their best interest at heart.

Making it to Congress as the youngest person ever and then doing absolutely nothing except for engaging in demagoguery. That's what Madison Cawthorn has done throughout this, his freshman year of being a member of the House of Representatives. So at this point, we can only hope that his career in the House of Representatives ends much like his college career. Maybe he'll drop out, right? You're halfway through your first term. Maybe it's time to call it quits, Madison. Maybe being a representative just isn't for you. If you want people to love you, you want to go out there and give these flowery speeches and have people cheer for you, then maybe you ought to just move into conservative media. There is plenty of room for you there and I have no doubt you would find success. Leave the legislating to people who know a little bit more than you do, which is pretty much everybody else in the House of Representatives right now.

And that's saying a lot, because we also have people like Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Mo Brooks and Louie Gohmert. But another reason Cawthorn doesn't want people to go to college, because he doesn't want them to have those new experiences I talked about. He doesn't want them to have their eyes open to anything outside of their typical worldview. That's the basically with all the Republicans.
