A Sense of Doubt blog post #2596 - Musical Monday Reprint #1973 from July 13, 2020
The new topper for this reprint is apropos because I am teaching V for Vendetta along with Persepolis this quarter.
Mainly with Musical Monday reprints, I have been keeping to short ones or timely ones, those with a concurrent date from years ago or some connection to current events.
I dedicate this reprint to all those who fight for what's right, what is TRULY right, which always has at its core empathy and compassion for other people. When we start to delude ourselves that what is right is about exclusion, judgement, antagonism, hatred, opposition, enemies, belligerence, fear, racism, or any of the other states of play in the Hate Nation, then we have lost our way.

But then, later, after WILL SMITH WON AN OSCAR, and gave a speech in which he alluded to being ashamed of h is behavior but didn't outright apologize for it, though he vaguely apologized for something, then Jessica Chastain re-affirmed the definition of classy and EXACTLY what I am talking about when it comes to fighting for what is RIGHT.
Jessica Chastain won the Oscar for Best Actress on Sunday, and used some of her speech to highlight the current crisis of violence, legislative and otherwise, against the LGBTQ+ community. https://t.co/qFhVnZYQrR

And so, this blog post is dedicated to Jessica Chastain and all those like her who fight for what is TRULY RIGHT and not just the misguided perception of rightness, swayed by the hateful barf holes spewing their dog whistle racist bullshit on places like FOX NEWS (which is not "news") and elsewhere.
I CAN'T BREATHE.

A Sense of Doubt blog post #1973 - "Why Don't you Go Ahead and Turn off the Sun" - A Musical Mix for Monday 2007.13
I listened to two songs on the Fourth of July: Ani DiFranco's "'Tis of Thee" and Bruce Springsteen's "Independence Day," and so a mix was born.
The news cycle isn't at the protests for #BlackLivesMatter and #ICan'tBreathe 24/7 anymore but the protests are still happening.
We cannot let the nation lapse back into the passive status quo of silent consent, apathy, lethargy, and dull torpor.
RISE UP!
I decided to wrap this music mix in visuals more than rhetoric in my words.
Oh yeah, and keeping with the year theme, 1973 was a major year in my life as well as the world.
me in 1973:

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
