So, Sunday, I hiked nine miles. Technically, 8.8 and 20,000-some steps.
I did not intend to go nine miles, but honestly, I did not measure the distance.
This is a site I had visited in 2018 and have wanted to return to ever since. Recently, I reprinted the original post, here:
We started at the Tillamook Forest Center.

I intended us to hike to Wilson River Falls and back.
1.4 MILES on the road but our apps recorded 8.8 miles on the trail that runs along the Wilson River.
We also walked past the Wilson Falls. We followed signs for the Falls and then there was no sign at the Falls, which were one of two locations if we guessed.
I think this picture (left) is the Wilson River Falls, but I am not sure. There was no sign, which is weird as there were three or four signs pointing the way.
It was 99-102 degrees in other parts of the area, but not here and not in the shade.
It was all almost more than I could take. I have not taken such a long hike in a very long time.
As we neared the spot where we would turn around, I made noise that if there was a shuttle back to the Forest Center, I would take it.
My friend Paul who accompanied me on the hike did not want to take a shuttle. He's also 16 years younger than me! I didn't really want to surrender to a shuttle either. But I was nearing the end of my endurance, or so I thought.
I really started to struggle on the way back. There were some climbs on the walk but only a few hundred feet. I pushed myself. In the end, the trip back seemed to go much faster than the trip out. It's often this way when marching toward something but not sure how far it is. For all the signs, there was no distance info on them (which would have been nice).
I am proud of myself.
This may be my next hike:
Thanks for tuning in!

- New note - On 1807.06, I ceased daily transmission of my Hey Mom feature after three years of daily conversations. I post Hey Mom blog entries on special occasions. I post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day, and now I have a second count for Days since my Dad died on August 28, 2024. I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of Mom's death, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of her death and sometimes 13:40 EDT for the time of Dad's death. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
