Ellory loved her grandpa very much. Look at that picture above. Dad often naps and uses a hat to cover his eyes. Ellory decided to take a nap with him. Or maybe just stand guard.
I told the dogs that I had to go home and say goodbye to grandpa. Satchel and Ellory both loved their grandpa a lot and will miss him. Essel would have loved him, but she never got to meet him.
Now, every night, when I do what I call the numbers with Ellory, a series of things about which I want to re-assure her every night, I have added a reminder that we both love grandpa and will miss him.
Ellory wishes she could have said goodbye to him. But she did cuddle with him when he was visiting two years ago. I don't have a picture of Ellory and Dad from 2022.
I am glad that Dad visited and got to see our new Kalama home.
I do have this picture of Dad and Satchel:

Also, this is a milestone: post #3500.
I like that this reprint with added content is post #3500.
In talking with the dogs every night at bed time, we will honor my Dad, keep his memory alive in our minds and hearts, and remember that we had the chance to say goodbye.
We miss you, Dad.
Thanks for tuning in.

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #779 - Havre, Montana - Trip West Day Four
Hi Mom,
Still traveling. Today was the longest day of the trip.
Up early in Bismarck and on the road by 8:30, which with me needing to work was a bit tricky. Then we headed up to Underwood and got there by 9:30. We were back on the road before 11 a.m. after Dad spent some time in Underwood where his grandfather is buried and where his father was born.
I budgeted this day to be our longest mileage day. To go from Bismarck, ND to Havre, MT through Underwood is 539 miles, which Google estimates will take 8 hrs 48 min. We reached Havre at 6:30 Mountain time, which was for us, from when we started, about 7:30.
Because of stops with the dogs, and even with Dad driving 80 MPH most of the way, it took us 11 hours to make that haul.
Here's where we stayed.
Townhouse Inn Havre - "Haver"
Address: 601 1st St W, Havre, MT 59501
We tried leaving Ellory out of her crate because the night before in Bismarck, we were called and asked to return to the hotel when we were trying to have dinner. When we got back, Ellory was wailing and yipping. So we tried no crate and both dogs were very well behaved and very good when we returned from dinner, which was just across the street at a place the desk clerk did not recommend, but I didn't want to take the time to go to the other place by shuttle as I was worried about Ellory uncrated in the hotel room.

I plan to continue Hey Mom posts at least twice per week but will continue to post the days since ("Days Ago") count on my blog each day. The blog entry numbering in the title has changed to reflect total Sense of Doubt posts since I began the blog on 0705.04, which include Hey Mom posts, Daily Bowie posts, and Sense of Doubt posts. Hey Mom posts will still be numbered sequentially. New Hey Mom posts will use the same format as all the other Hey Mom posts; all other posts will feature this format seen here.
