A Sense of Doubt blog post #1428 - Girls also want to rock a pair of kicks

A Sense of Doubt blog post #1428 - Girls also want to rock a pair of kicks

It's getting to the point that in terms of the stories and the humans and the passion that I am loving basketball MORE than Baseball. Inconceivable! I KNOW.

The Golden State Warriors have been my second team, my number one team in the West, since before the latest Splash Brothers dynasty. I loved Stephen Curry before he really blew up and had managed to draft him into my keeper fantasy Basketball League before he became the best player on the planet (or at least best shooter). And then Draymond Green is from Flint, Michigan and played for MSU. But I loved the GSW since they drafted and traded Chris Weber and then the Baron Davis era.

I have been saving this story of Stephen Curry's benevolence and magnanimousness since November, and it's good that I waited as a month later there was a follow up.

Hey world. GIRLS want to rock some kicks, too. GIRLS love sports, too. GIRLS kick ass.

Stephen Curry makes shoes available to girls online after letter

ESPN- NOV. 29, 2018

Nine-year-old Riley Morrison needed shoes for the new hoops season, but after deciding she liked Under Armour's Stephen Curry model, she couldn't find a pair online. So she took her problem straight to the top, writing a letter to the Golden State Warriors star.
Saying she's a big fan, Morrison wrote that she and her dad "were disappointed to see that there were no Curry 5s for sale under the girls section. However, they did have them for sale under the boy's section, even to customize."
Smartly playing up that Curry is the father of two girls and runs a girls' basketball camp, Morrison wrote: "I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock Curry 5's too."

Her activism worked. Curry wrote back, "We are correcting this now!" And that wasn't all. He also said he was sending her a pair of Curry 5s, and "you'll be one of the first kids to get the Curry 6."

Curry also invited Morrison to celebrate with him in Oakland on March 8 for International Women's Day.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr isn't surprised at how Curry responded to Morrison's letter.
"I saw that," Kerr said before Thursday's game at Toronto. "It doesn't surprise me one bit. Steph is -- as great of a player as he is, he's an equally impressive human being. His interaction with our fans, just people in general who he comes across, that's all genuine.
"That's the beauty of Steph. He understands his power. He understands the impact he can make on people's lives. I'm just incredibly proud of him and our other guys. I think we have a whole team full of guys like that. But Steph stands out because of the amount of attention he gets and the adoration he receives from millions of young teenage boys and girls everywhere. Again, I love the fact that Steph is aware of his impact and utilizes it for nothing but the good of other people."
A look at the Under Armour site Thursday revealed that the Curry 5 shoes are indeed available in the girls' section.
Morrison told Teen Vogue, which originally reported the story, that she wrote to Curry because she thought it was "unfair" that the shoes were only available in the boys' section of the website.
"I wanted to help make things equal for all girls, because girls play basketball too," she said.
ESPN's Nick Friedell contributed to this report.

Stephen Curry gifts 9-year-old fan with Curry 6 shoes after letter

ESPN - Dec. 29 2018

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry helped give a young fan a Christmas she won't soon forget, making good on his promise to send her a pair of his signature shoes after the two exchanged letters last month.
Curry sent two pairs of the new Under Armour Curry 6 shoes to 9-year-old Riley Morrison on Christmas morning, one month after Riley wrote Curry a letter telling him that she couldn't find his shoes for sale under the girls section of the Under Armour website.
"I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock Curry 5's, too," Riley wrote to Curry in the letter, which she sent in November.
Curry rewarded Riley's initiative by writing back, "We are correcting this now!" He also said he was sending her a pair of his shoes and wrote, "You'll be one of the first kids to get the Curry 6."
Video of an excited Riley receiving the shoes was posted on Instagram earlier this week.

In his letter to Riley last month, Curry invited her to celebrate with him in Oakland, California, on March 8 for International Women's Day.
His promise to "fix the issue" that Riley described in her letter appears to have been fulfilled: A look at the Under Armour site revealed that the Curry 6 shoes are now available in the girls section.
