Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1110 - Not my teaching but my study - Hey Mom Reprint

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #1110 - Not my teaching but my study - Hey Mom Reprint

Hi Mom,

I know. We've been here before. That's why it's a reprint day.

I have been meaning to do a Hey Mom reprint with very little Mom content. So here it is!!

I should create a "study not teaching" category. But for now just the post.

It's endemic of what I do here. There's a great deal of "sharing." I try to keep a variety.

Hey, Mom! Talking to My Mother #729 - Not my teaching but my study

Hi Mom,

After the original content yesterday, I need a quicker to finish post today to stay on track.

More original content coming tomorrow and maybe Friday but time is short with many tasks to do for work and here at home as we are selling our house.

I saved this Morning Computer by Warren Ellis because it summed up my thoughts on this blog and its purpose.

I liked what Montaigne writes here as it seems to fit so directly with my purpose as well, which also seems to be an aspect of Ellis' own purpose with his more stream-lined, less regular, but no less thoughtful Morning Computer blog.

I publish what I need to publish here for me more often than for you, Mom, or you, dear reader.

Sometimes, I am just publishing something I want to read later.

So, there's that. I have not always read or read closely what I am posting.

Told you. Needed a quickie today.

More chatty tomorrow. Throwback Thursday. Lunch with Lori.

NOT MY TEACHING, BUT MY STUDY

…Montaigne, who writes in his essay ‘Of Practice’:
What I write here is not my teaching, but my study; it is not a lesson for others, but for me. And yet it should not be held against me if I publish what I write. What is useful to me may also by accident be useful to another. Moreover, I am not spoiling anything, I am only using what is mine. And if I play the fool, it is at my expense and without harm to anyone. For it is a folly that will die with me, and will have no consequences.
Those odd moments when you find in history the perfect description of the things you do today. Like this journal.  It should be the standing header.
Found in ESSAYISM, by Brian Dillon, which is rather a good book. (UK) (US).  Also:
But the desire of the essay is not to seek and filter the eternal out of the transitory; it wants, rather, to make the transitory eternal.

Reflect and connect.

Have someone give you a kiss, and tell you that I love you.

I miss you so very much, Mom.

Talk to you tomorrow, Mom.

NOTE on time: When I post late, I had been posting at 7:10 a.m. because Google is on Pacific Time, and so this is really 10:10 EDT. However, it still shows up on the blog in Pacific time. So, I am going to start posting at 10:10 a.m. Pacific time, intending this to be 10:10 Eastern time. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom. But I am not going back and changing all the 7:10 a.m. times. But I will run this note for a while. Mom, you know that I am posting at 10:10 a.m. often because this is the time of your death.

NEW (written 1708.27) NOTE on time: I am now in the same time zone as Google! So, when I post at 10:10 a.m. PDT to coincide with the time of your death, Mom, I am now actually posting late, so it's really 1:10 p.m. EDT. But I will continue to use the time stamp of 10:10 a.m. to remember the time of your death, Mom. I know this only matters to me, and to you, Mom.
